Ospreys are cool birds. There are literally hundreds in my little slice of Florida. Nice shot.

I used to kayak the Potomac and the Occoquan, and I’d see Ospreys. They build nests sometimes atop navigational pylons, and they are real territorial. They’d get big and loud whenever I’d paddle withing 50 feet. Them, Kingfishers and Eagles were common sights.

Due to the efforts of the Michigan DNR, osprey are starting to make a comeback here in S.E. Michigan. Several of the metro-park lakes now have adults returning in the spring after wintering in Florida.

When they first started the program a bunch of years ago, the chicks that were raised would migrate south in the fall but fail to return the following year.
