PHILADELPHIA The head of the Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia is closing the door opened by Pope Francis to letting civilly remarried Catholics receive Communion, saying the faithful in his archdiocese can only do so if they abstain from sex and live as brother and sister.

The Archbishop is quite right.
For the sake of our souls; those of us who are unrepentant sinners must not attempt communion with the Body of Christ.
The Bishop is merely upholding traditional catholic values that have existed for hundreds of years.
If you don’t like it just join one of the many denominations that have made accommodations for a more feel good about myself worship.
Don’t make it harder than it is.
Unless they are a catholic priests, then little boys should run scared.
that’s what 6 women told me. : )
Thank you. I left the Catholic church a while a go and it has been tough. I had always hoped to come back but not with what is happening now.
That’s always been the teaching of the Church. Abstain from unlawful and/or disordered sex.
Who?
Obviously not so. I just got a marriage invitation from a coworker for marriage in a Catholic church. He told me he just got a church annulment from his first wife but has been married to his second in a civil ceremony for several, maybe five or six years.
Jesus chose his words carefully, and that the exact words must be understood to determine the intended meaning.
When He means "adultery," the NT word is "moicheia":
Mark 10:11-12
He said to them, Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery ("moicheia") against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery ("moicheia").
In the so-called exception, He uses a different word, "porneia," which means unlawful sexual intercourse. Jesus in Matthew 5:32 and Matthew 19:9 does not use the Greek word "moicheia," which is the Greek word for adultery.
Matthew 5:32
But I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful--- "porneia") causes her to commit adultery ("moicheia"), and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery ("moicheia").
Matthew 19:9
I say to you, whoever divorces his wife (unless the marriage is unlawful--- "porneia") and marries another, commits adultery ("moicheia").
So Jesus did not contradict Himself by saying an indissoluble marriage could nevertheless by dissolved by "adultery". He said if the marriage were "unlawful intercourse, then it could be dissolved because it was not a valid marriage from the beginning that God had joined together.
He's talking about situation where there was some defect tht made the first marriage null from the beginning, which means that from the git-go it was not something God had joined together. Because what GOD has joined together, no one must separate. That's Christ's law
Who is a monastic queen?
Kind of a misleading headline. They are talking about receiving the Sacraments. Divorced Catholics can still receive Communion. They can still have sex. If they remarry, however, then the Church looks at that as living an adulterous life and good Catholics should voluntarily refrain from Communion.
Thats always been the teaching of the Church. Abstain from unlawful and/or disordered sex.
The teaching comes from Jesus Christ. It is true that He is a man who never had sex with a woman, but what you said about child molestation is untrue and un-called-for.
the word can’t means they are incapable of doing so. He better revisit his proclamation.
It's a ruling about second "marriages" which are not marriages in the eyes of God, because one (or both) of the spouses was already married to somebody else, and their lawful (first) spouse is still living. Thus they were not free to marry again.
If they do, this is bigamy. Or, to use Jesus' stronger word, "adultery."
Acts of adultery are still forbidden by the Ten Commandments. This is considered a biggie.
The list of archbishops who did not condone the pedophilia is small indeed.
It’s not quite that way at all. Granted, there are some such as Teddy that obviously paid for it, but for us normal peons, getting a marriage annulled is a serious undertaking.
