Please don’t torture us with an X-Files reboot without Mulder

When Fox Television ran the “reboot” of the X-Files this winter I will confess that I was completely enthralled. Yes, I was a fan boy. I loved the original series, even in the seasons when Duchovny had grown sick of his job and disappeared for extended periods, ostensibly having been abducted by aliens. (Sorry for the spoilers to any of you tuning in after emerging from a time machine.) I even liked the movies. And the six part mini-series (now known as “Season 10”) back in January and Februrary was a great trip down memory lane which they clearly pumped a lot of resources and effort into. At least one of the non-canonical, Monster of the Week entries was a bit on the hokey side, but I still enjoyed it. (I don’t hold it against Allahpundit that he has no taste in television entertainment.)

For any and all X-Files fans. How do you feel about this? This fan is feathering out and loosing interest at a rapid pace. Having forgotten most of what was seen 6 months ago, to bring it back with/without Mulder doesn't matter any longer. Real life has a bit too much drama to be subsided by this type of fiction.

It took me a minute to figure it out, but ‘Einstein’ is played by Lauren Ambrose, from ‘Six Feet Under’.

Me, too! Couldn’t quite place her, but she WAS much younger, then. LOVED her in 6 Feet. Her character really brought the final episode full-circle, I thought.

(I’m tearing up just remember in...Dammit!)

Scully was way to much like Hillary, spoiled it for me after awhile.

That’s happened in a lot movies. Culture has destroyed itself imitating her for two generations now. It’s a catastrophe, specifically designed to create millions of arrogant, cruel, delusional liberal women who look to Hillary as their model. And it’s worked.

I’m over Mulder and Scully...was also a devoted fan, but it’s still a better Love Story than, ‘Twilight’! :)

After that disgusting ‘kill the deniers’ psa, I will never again watch ANYTHING that Gillian Anderson has participated in.

Thanks V K Lee, I barely had interest in Season 10, although I did watch all of them. There was nothing much going on in the episodes that they hadn't had histrionic overacting moments about 25 years ago, but at least there was a cast reunion. Wasn't there a cliffhanger? See, not much impact on my life. :')

I worked in Funeral Service, so I was interested in the show. At first it was about a family in the funeral business. And bizarre ways to die; Then it introduced a gay character, and the ‘funeral industry’ trying to take over the family business. The it was all gay, all the time, and I just couldn’t watch it anymore.

The ‘gay’ part was only ONE story line out of about six!

Besides, he grew up to be Dexter, LOL!

I watched one of the originals way back when. It was a
thinly veiled slam of the Confederacy, how stupid, violent,
and inbred we are. Ignorant & creepy. The symbolism was
blatant and self-congratulatory for its “sophistication”.

I just finished watching the entire series in order.

As much as I did not like Robert Patrick and “the other chick” at first, they kind of grew on me.

If they are going to reboot, they should dump ALL of the old characters and do a real reboot, a la Star Trek. Or just do a couple two hour made-for-tv movies.

You can only beat a dead horse for so long. By the time I was watching season eight, it was getting a little lame.

If that’s what you got out of that episode, I feel sorry for you.

I’ll always be an X-files fan, I don’t care if these two are in their 60’s. The two defined professionalism. Even though I despised Skinner at first, even he demonstrated integrity, not readily apparent at first. I only hope their current true life FBI counterparts have those qualities. I begin to wonder though with the slow walk of the Clinton scandal. One of my own military projects was mentioned on an episode, I about spit my beer up. Hint: MCH fuel system, you’ll have to find it yourselves, lol.

I thought that the "reboot" mini-season had only one worthwhile episode. I wish they'd quit with the "alien DNA" sub-plot, it feels worn out. The show was best when it jumped all over the place and landed in unexpected places. It faltered when it obsessed over the alien abduction theme.

I agree, though - don't bother with a larger scale reboot if the lead characters are different. Won't work.

BTW, I read that Duchovny wants to reprise his role in the upcoming Twin Peaks reboot, too. Remember that DEA agent character?

I’m not an x-files fan, but have you ever heard of the song Mulder & Scully by Catatonia?
