I once drove a millenial chick uber-insane by telling her that if AGW even existed it was still a “natural” process...because if she believed we were just intelligent apes, we were a product of nature and therefore natural; as animals our impact on the environment was also therefore a “natural” force. She had a complete conniption over semantics and was mad I was enjoying myself so much.

“Man’s pollution is NOT natural!!”
“When a bear poops in the woods, is that natural?”
“Yes!!!”
“If a man poops in the woods, is that natural?”
“NO!!!”
“Are you trying to say then, that Man is an alien from space??”

I was informed I was a “hater” and a few other choice things ;)

Once a person says "hater," I stop responding. That's so 15-year-old, and I ain't about that life.

“Pristine”: So overgrown and choked that humans cannot navigate it without defiling it in some way - like breaking twigs or swinging a machete....

Don’t you get the feeling when they do that, that you’ve become a substitute for their parents? Socs are children that will be rebelling against Mommy and Daddy until they’rd dead.

SOC: Can I have another rice pudding?

RN: No, Mrs. Moore. You’ve had two, and any more will upset your stomach.

SOC: Oh my God. You’re a fascist just like my father.

RN: Didn’t he fight in the Spanish-American War with Teddy Roosevelt?

SOC: Teddy Roosevelt was a fascist, too.

RN: (whispers to self) - I guess he didn’t issue the troops very much rice pudding.-

Yes, that’s very much what I meant.

I have said to my own dubious Offspring, “You seem to believe that, by acting in this self-destructive and irrational manner, you’re ‘putting one over on the Man.’ However, you’re just being an idiot.”

I’ve also said, “Keep this up, and you’ll grow up to be a Democrat.”

——Foxes dig holes——

I’ll take that as the entry point to mention adaptation.

My kids live in a wooded enclave subdivision of say 50 homes in the middle of a busy city. A power transmission line provides a corridor into it from distant forrested areas. That very narrow corridor has allowed wildlife to enter the area.

Somehow a red fox I named Sadie made her way into the area and dug her den hole under the small outbuilding for the lawn mowers and stuff. She is a beatiful animal and when they come out in the yard to play the kits are amazingly adapted to their home. Their home happens to be in an ordinary grass yard surrounded by woods pretty much in the middle of a city.

There are also frequent, infact daily, visits from the deer that have made this urban enclave home.

The funny part is the battle of the mothers. Sadie digs an unobtrusive hole under the back of the shed adjacent to the woods. Daughter in law, fearful of her cub being endangered by the presence of the fox. shovels dirt back in the hole. Both are determined, but in the end it is a stand off.

The simple fact is, all over America, wild life of several very adaptive species have returned to areas from which they left fearing humans.

The species known are the red fox and white tailed deer noted here as well as opossums, skunks, Raccoons Gray squirrels, chipmunks, canada geese and wild turkeys. Some might add coyotes.

I don't subscribe to the view anyway -- what is meant by "pristine"? Never been nibbled by wild goats? Never been covered with glaciers? Looks like another paper by a reader (or maybe coauthor) of "The Agenda Driven Life". :')

Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake, is home to more than 300 species of cichlids. These fish, which are popular in aquariums, are deep-bodied and have one nostril, rather than the usual two, on each side of the head. Seismic profiles and cores of the lake taken by a team headed by Thomas C. Johnson of the University of Minnesota, reveal that the lake dried up completely about 12,400 years ago. This means that the rate of speciation of cichlid fishes has been extremely rapid: something on average of one new species every 40 years!

Yep - those who "long for the good old pristine" days are creating some sort of mental image that doesn't correspond with reality. Even animals created paths/trails through the "pristine" forests merely by starting on paths of least resistance and widening/opening them by use.

They prefer that we have a wild world where man can't properly exist and don't realize that all life makes changes to the environment for ease of survival.

One you define “pristine” as “unaffected by humans,” you’re all the way to the conclusion you were looking for.

Exactly. The environazi elitists state quite clearly there are
5 billion people too many on earth.

If you want “pristine” environments, any human is too many. Kind of a bind for the environmentalists ...

They want huge tracts of pristine land that only the environazi elite have access to. They want to live in vast algoresque estates with huge acreage adjoining the pristine tracts. And they want those proles who are allowed to remain alive to live packed into cities, 10 to a room, Stalin-style.

That is their green utopia. Maybe even soylent green.

But it's no longer "pristine" once they get there and walk, "go," or even breathe!

But seriously, you're right: that's the plan.

One of your “environazi elite” is identified in a WSJ article this morning about driverless cars: Robert McDonald, “lead scientist for the Global Cities Program at the Nature Conservancy.”

Driverless cars is the first step towards rationed driving.

While not a 'pristine untouched by man' area, Białowieża Forest in Poland is a very primeval place. Home of the European Bison. And any place that can brag about an ancient giant oak named The Great Mamamuszi, (pronounced Mamamouchi) is worthy of attention. Circumference 690 cm (270 in) (2005), height 34 m (112 ft).
