Sadly, I think you’re right.

Not sure where you sarcasm tag is. Note that this latest yahoo wasn’t on a list.He had been investigated but his cases were closed.

There can be no list without due process. The lists we currently have are unconstitutional, imho.

Pubbies need a spine...prohibit gun free zones and watch the death rates drop.

We all have to submit to a background check when purchasing firearms. What they propose is delaying issue until the person on the list has been cleared by the FBI. The FBI will be given a time limit to either file or drop the case.

Many states have mandatory wait times for firearms. This would be no different other than it would only affect those under FBI investigation.

No, you can't answer. You can speculate.

Meanwhile our public servants in the "Department of Homeland Security" think that Tea Party activists and veterans are as big a threat as islamic terrorists. Our public servants in the FBI aren't allowed to talk about radical islamists or shariah.

Now, riddle me this:

Was the Fort Hood murderer on the "Terror Watch List"?
Were the San Bernardino murderers on the "Terror Watch List"?
Was the Orlando murderer on the "Terror Watch List"?
Were the Boston Marathon bombers on the "Terror Watch List"?

Do you believe for an instant that being on a "Terror Watch List" would have prevented them carrying out their crimes?

Are you in league with Barack Hussein 0bama, Hillary Clinton, Dianne Feinstein, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and Jeh Johnson in favoring secret "No Guns" lists and universal background checks?

Many states have mandatory wait times for firearms.

And many States have explicitly REJECTED mandatory wait times for firearm purchases.

Your refusal to answer reasonable questions ... or to admit that you cannot answer ... is noted.

Have a nice day.

The Supreme Court will get this episode in roughly two years, and the lack of a open due process will fail the law.

Ya know, it’s knuckleheads like you which prevent any type discussion about anything. You don’t know which position Trump took, automatically you ascribe the negative one to Trump. If you took half a second to pull your head from your ass, you would know it’s organizations such as AARP, NRA, Planned Parenthood, Heckle and Jeckle fan club, etc., that seek to fill coffers by preying on rubes like yourself.

“I’m confused as to why a new law is needed to implement this”

It’s an election year and they want to look like they are doing something.

If a person on a “watchlist” can buy a gun and go on a shooting spree they were probably not being watched by anyone. It’s just a typical dumbocrat government program.

-- So, you believe that someone on the terror watch list should be able to get the gun on the spot and then take a u-turn to the nearest theater to do his thing? --

The deterrent effect of the proposed law is negligible. It will stop no determined criminal. It's make work for people who administer watch lists, lawyers who work to get their clients off the watch lists, and judges who help the government deny rights to people who have no criminal inclination or intention.

When this measure fails, as it certainly will, stronger measures will be taken. The goal is confiscation of firearms - and the government will tell the people that confiscation is not afoul of the 2nd amendment.

"I can’t think of any reason why a person who is listed the terrorist watch list should be legally purchasing a firearm. Very few people would have opposition to this proposal. I’m happy to see the NRA supports it."

Really? You can't think of a reason?

We are a nation of laws, not lists. Being on a "list" is not due process.

This is a no brainer folks.

Thank you for your irrational outburst. I'm not sure what it's supposed to mean, though.

Donald Trump presents himself as a great, fearless leader who wants to Make America Great Again(tm). Oddly enough, he has to closet himself with the NRA (which you apparently deride) in order to figure out whether letting the government create secret lists to deny Constitution protected rights is a good idea or not. The evil stupidity of Barry Hussein's secret lists and universal gun registration schemes should be obvious. You don't Make America Great Again(tm) by creating secret government lists.

No, I didn’t deride anybody. I’ll just wait to read the actual content of the discussion. You anti-Trumpers need to calm down.

-- we know that abuse of power is the norm for the Democrat party e.g. Lois Lerner and the IRS ... --

The DEMs do not have a monopoly on abuse of power. Our federal government, all of it, is paranoid and afraid of the public. This "us v them" mindset harbored by the government transcends party affiliation. One can find it in the local police shop too, or your town council.

As I noted above, the proposed law will function only as make work for government minions and lawyers. It will deter ZERO attacks. When this law fails, as it is guaranteed to do, stronger measures will be enacted.

The Supreme Court will get this episode in roughly two years, and the lack of a open due process will fail the law....Trump knows this....so do the Republican Senators. So, it’s a marginal act for the public and the news media....which makes everyone feel thrilled....until next week when the next Islamic dude does his act, and you find out that he got his gun via some Latino drug cartel gang.

Yes I remember Bush making this calculation on campaign finance reform. And we are still losing to this day because he thought the supreme court would find this or that unconstitutional.

Further, I can't believe anyone would rely on the supreme court, the same court that has found Obamacare to be constitutional.

We are in a fight for our very existence folks. We can not afford to give an inch to the enemy.

-- So, you believe that the government should be able to deprive citizens of their civil rights by the simple expedient of putting them on a list? --

The real function of this is "subtle" and profound. What this does, and there is ample precedent for it, is to shift the presumption and the burden.

You'll get your due process alright, but from the position of being presumed dangerous, with the burden of proving otherwise being on your shoulders. See civil asset forfeiture.

Then your outburst truly was meaningless.

I'll say my piece. You don't have to like it.

I’ve emailed my GOP senators. Anyone want to hold their breath, waiting for Juan McCain and Jeff McFlake paying ANY attention to their constituents?

Me neither! Those two serve DC, and DC alone!

Well put. The pernicious evil of this secret watch list business is easy to miss.

I have done the same. The execrable Joe Manchin will toss my email in the trash; I'm not sure what the squishy GOPe Shelley Moore Capito will do.
