Beltway insiders like to dismiss Donald Trump’s strength in social media as a mirage – a following of reporters and political gadflies, not Republican voters and core activists.

New data shows the Washington elite are wrong.

According to an analysis obtained by POLITICO that matches Twitter handles to public voter data, seven out of every 10 of @realdonaldtrump’s followers appear to be his supporters.

Trump followers are "true believers" and I have never seen their like in all the years I have watched politics starting with Carter. They are my first turn off when it comes to Trump on line, with Trump's liberal policies as my second turn off.

They sort of remind me of dem voters and I never thought republicans could breed the like but to win you need an excited base....Trump has that. My fear is that this is a massive rope-a-dope which will be interesting to watch....either republican base has become as mindless as the dem base and as scary or this is going to be a disaster.

I miss Reagan.

"...I miss Reagan..."

Our beloved Ronald Reagan is unfortunately deceased.
We now have to keep Hillary Clinton from appointing 3-4 judges to the SCOTUS.
Time to be a patriot and join the Trump Train to keep her far away from the Oval Office.

Rock and a hard place?—Not sure I get what you’re saying. Is a mindless Pub base not already a disaster?

Frankly I believe your over thinking things.
either Trump wins or this is going to be a disaster.

Those who think Hillary is the better choice are stupid or crazy.

Reagan is dead. This is a new era with different dynamics that calls for different leadership.

You do realize that the owner of this site is a ‘true believer’ in Trump, don’t you? If you’re so unhappy with Trump being supported, and he is supported here, you may be on the wrong forum.

Who are you planning to vote for, this November? Or, are you planning to not vote?

Perhaps you would take the time to read Trump’s positions on his website https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions and let me know what you consider as liberal policies.

Nah, some of us are here just to watch him blow up the Stupid Party....and should he finally get the nomination and win, to watch him lay waste to the Executive Office, particularly the Cabinet.

Just like with an old rust bucket clunker. Sometimes you have to stop with the expensive band-aid repairs, set a match to it and start over.

Perhaps finally, the old GOP apparatchicks are NOT in control and this constitutional republic will have a fighting chance at survival.

Before now and November I predict Donald Trump will have his twitter account suspended. But what he has right now is a proto archetype of the future of American politics.

Twitter coalitions forming around certain ideas and introducing them into the mainstream media driving the political pollsters and talking heads to issues of the day.

Trump was not my man and I dread the future when half of what he does as president angers me, but . . .

Trump is a breath of fresh air. He has the testicular fortitude to say what everyone else is afraid to say.

Not only that, but with Clinton I would hate 99% of what she does.

Vote for Trump.

I can certainly see the appeal of Trump to political outsiders and newcomers, and those who are fed up with the failures of elite political class. Many people have been waiting for an unafraid, brash, non-PC, media outsider to take on the establishment and “tell it like it is”, to project confidence and not back down. Trump is those things. And he has a business pedigree that is attractive for a broken country. It is truly a study in human psychology to see how positively many people respond when Trump simply says that he will fix things, “trust me”, without giving specifics, and doubling down when he says something that offends people or seems to make a mistake. People respond to confidence. We’re sick of wishy-washy politicians.

At the same time, it is surprising that Trump has such a high level of support on the Right, especially here on FR. Thru the years we have been steadfast in our insistence that our ideal candidate be solid on the issues of Pro-LIfe and the 2nd Amendment. Trump is anything but. We can’t be entirely sure where he truly stands on such issues. His past is muddled. Ronald Reagan had a long established and documented history to back up his conservative bonafides. Trump is a very unknown quantity. He has spent the vast majority of his life in the pursuit of his own self-interest. Nothing wrong with that, but it does not seem to have been grounded in any specific ideology, let alone a conservative one. It’s truly anyone’s guess what he stands for or believes deep down, whether he has any core values which he holds dear. He is not a man of the class and character that member of FR have typically supported over the years.

That said, he’s the nominee, and he’s obviously a better choice than Hillary. It’s a no-brainer. It’s just a surprising, strange election year, and it proves that politics always involves compromise, sometimes even of deeply held beliefs.
