The movie was based on the book We Were Soldiers Once, and Young, a true story well worth reading.
Growing up, I had wondered why LTC Lefebvre, the father of some of my schoolmates, had a gimpy arm. After reading the book, I wondered no longer.

I had the privilege of meeting both LTG (Ret) Moore and Mr. Galloway at a book signing at the Pentagon in 1992. I was too young to have been there, but I went with an office mate who’d been there, also in th First Team, and the ties really do bind. RIP CSM Plumley, and all the others gone too soon.
