It’s not a bird, a plane or Superman, but it does belong in the Oklahoma skies.

This weekend, the public is invited to the Discover Aviation and Air Show Spectacular at Sundance Airport in Yukon.

During the show, visitors will be able to see a microjet in action.

The jet stands at 5’7″ tall, is 14 feet long and weighs just 416 pounds.

A micro jet in Oklahoma A microjet in Oklahoma “It’s crazy small but it goes really fast ,so it’s full of performance, 320 miles an hour. I can go straight up or upside down,” said Justin Lewis, an airshow pilot.

Lewis built the microjet and is ready to show it off with tricks that will make your jaw drop.

“I can pull 6 gs in this airplane. What that means, when I pull back on the stick and I go up or turn really hard, I weigh six times what I normally weight, that’s close to 1,000 pounds,” said Lewis.

This unique plane is one of dozens soaring high all weekend at Sundance Airport in Yukon.

“We want them to see things like the physics behind it, the aerodynamics behind it, what aviation means to the state of Oklahoma,” said Sam Sims, airshow director.

Aviation is one of the top three industries in our state and it’s booming with opportunity.

“Right now, the industry needs pilots quite a bit but we also need mechanics, we need aviation medical technicians,” said Lewis.

From pilots walking on top of the wings of planes, to formation aerobatics and seeing the microjet in action, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.

“I just want them to be inspired. If you’re a kid and you don’t know what you want to do in life, maybe you can come out here and find out you like aviation,” said Lewis.

Gates open Saturday at 9 a.m. and the airshow starts at noon.

The weekend event is free and open to the public.

It's a BD-5J. They came out, as kits, in the early 1970s.

I think she is just eye candy.

It says “Pilot Justin Lewis” on the side of the plane.

That pic reminds me a bit of the Nazi Germany interceptor, The Messerschmitt ME 163 rocket powered aircraft.

I think of those every time I catch the Peregrines in my neighborhood side on.

How about a male pilot?

That would be interesting.

The pilot built this one, according to the article. I remember seeing one at an air show in the mid-'70s. I recall that the retractable landing gear had a quick action, because the pilot made a low pass, flicking the gear up and down repeatedly as he passed the crowd. Made the BD5 look like some sort of odd bug, skittering across the airfield.
