How about in addition to public and private Reply a Like or Dislike or an Agree of Disagree button?

Facebook is not something any honest person wants to emulate.

Well, how about you start your own forum then you could make ALL the rules and put in ALL the little features you want.

What I was about the say . . . but you beat me to it. Besides, we’d probably have to pay commie Zuckerberg for the privilege.

I agree. But if it is done, be sure to have a dislike as well as a like. Having only like falls into the ‘afraid of offending’ category which is worse than nothing.

A simple Up or Down arrow would do fine

Not a bad idea. And I bet it wouldn’t cost hundreds of thousands a year to operate.

I saw him on another forum. Kinda' creepy. Like seeing someone you thought had died.

How about
+ 1 = like
- 1 = dislike
Cheap and simple...
...or we could actually just use the words "Like" or "Dislike" in a comment
I know it's low tech... :)

By his incoherent rantings it was more like Ash was chasing down some Captain Morgan.

Too high school IMO. If you have to write out a thank you, or agree, or disagree with someone, I believe that the effort put into any reply may help to temper how you approach, or tell another poster what you think of their posts.

No, Free Republic is not a status forum like the third rate Facebook and twitter, nor should it become one.
