I find it odd that people think the Quran is somehow immune to the same literary/critical “exegesis” that has so changed the face of biblical scholarship. The West will not be Islamized. Islam will be tamed and Westernized into something socially acceptable. I see it happening.

As you can’t have Islam without Muhammad, there is no way it can be “enlightened”.
The entire religion is Muhammad claiming divine revelation to justify what he wanted to do anyway. And what he wanted to do was a litany of evil of historic magnitude.
If you understand Islam you know that its reform and enlightenment are not possible outcomes.
They can not be enlightened from the outside, in. It would have to be strong and come from within and it never will.
What you are doing is advertising your complete ignorance of Islam.
Islam cannot be reformed like Christianity because Jesus was the Prince of Peace and Muhammad was a Demon of War.
To reform Islam and make it compatible with civilization, you’d have to eliminate Muhammad completely - but without Muhammad there is no Islam.
I think that the Koran demanding that all non-believers be killed would be a problem. And Mohammad was a warlord, murderer, rapist, kidnapper, slave trader and thief. That is what they worship. ISIS is islam. How do you transform that? It will always be evil. The only thing that could change is the definition of evil.

Absolute Truth is immutable but everything else is simply “until further notice”. To say that Islam cannot be transformed is to give it an internal strength it simply lacks. It will be Westernized and modernized. The clash with modernity is simply ugly and protracted.
Sounds pretty much that the pope is also not able to be enlightened.
