In Wake Of The Shooting, Should The Capitol Remain Gun-Free?
johnrlott.blogspot.com ^ | 3/30/2016 | John Lott

Like so many mass public shootings, the gunman who attacked the U.S. Capitol on Monday first tried shooting a uniformed officer. Fortunately, the lone gunman was quickly subdued and no one other than the attacker was seriously injured. But it raises questions of what would have happened with a more coordinated terrorist attack.

With terror attacks occurring regularly around the world, we can’t ignore the fact that the Capitol would provide a primary target for terrorists. Indeed, an FBI informant foiled such an attack in January.

Police are crucial – probably the single most important factor in reducing crime. But uniformed police have a tough job stopping terrorists since they are often the first targets in any attack.

Only for those that obey the law. Those that don’t, not so much.

Two blocks away...at Union Station....there’s probably twenty thugs hanging around with weapons. No one seems to worry about them and their close nature to the capital. Maybe if there were real trouble and cops couldn’t handle it....maybe the thugs would come over and put down the trouble.

If SS and the Capitol Police were doing their job, these things wouldn’t be happening.

As long as the Capitol has metal detectors at security checkpoints, I don't have an issue with it remaining gun-free.

What I mind is that the rest of D.C. is also a de facto gun free zone because of the unwillingness of the D.C. government to issue concealed carry permits or recognize out of state permits.

Until that gets fixed, the question of the Capitol remaining a gun-free zone is moot.

Maybe if we passed some really, really, really, super duper serious gun laws. Listen up criminals, we mean it this time.

Criminal element does not vote nor pay taxes. The elite do not care about controlling them. They actually fill a need to the elite by causing crime and fear so they can tell us they can “fix it” if we pay more taxes.

I always remember watching a video on You Tube with him debating Piers Morgan and in it, you can really tell how Morgan got especially nasty when Lott (discussing the movie theatre shooting in Aurora, Colorado) mentioned that the shooter did not go to the theatre that was about a five minute walk from his home or go to the one nearby that apparently had the largest seating capacity in the Denver area, he chose the one a bit of a further distance away but explicitly told patrons were not permitted with concealed firearms, even with legal permits.

Start with a ban on government workers living there and it will clean up substantially.

“gun free”? Obviously the criminal intent on killing someone will not obey the law.

Supposedly, the guy shot at the capitol had a pellet gun. If you or I were to shoot someone that brandished a pellet gun, I bet we’d be in big trouble, especially if it was a gun free zone.

D.C. gun free? In the wake of Trump’s comments, should Fifth Avenue be gun free?

Americans should have the right to bear arms, you never know when or against who you will need to defend yourself or someone else.

It doesn't have the same sound when repeated from a jail cell.
