I've been here since 2000 and have always wondered why there is an asterisk in the Search box. I always delete it before I type in my search. Why is it there? Should I be leaving it there when I do my search?

I just typed “*Search box” then titles got no result. Tried again without * and your post shows. I always delete it.

It's the default search term for building a webpage (which is done on demand for each person connected to the server) of most recent "comments", "articles", or "activity".
If you delete it, the web page builder puts it right back.
