At 11:30 a.m., hundreds of high-school and middle-school students walked out of their classes at Boston schools and streamed onto buses and subways for the ride downtown to let the mayor and the governor know they don't want their programs cut.
They swarmed out of Downtown Crossing for a rally at the Parkman Bandstand on the Common, followed by a march up to the State House and then to Faneuil Hall. Mayor Walsh, who was attending a press conference at Faneuil Hall to announce that Boston would host a conference for millennials who want to get rich, got into his car and left without talking to the students outside. Perhaps he heard them booing his name and vowing to make him a one-term mayor.

But the Sotomayor quote is amusing in itself. Some day, we will be equal to the Clintons and Kennedys. Some day. Keep the faith.

If they send home the illegals that should solve the problem

Had I ever "walked out of class in protest" in middle school or high school...my parents would have grounded me until I was 25 years old.

Isn’t it nice that kids have become props and propaganda for the teachers’ unions?

We could not even stand up when I was in school even if the bell went , unless the teacher said so.
Now these all about me fools just walk out as if they know anything about anything.

If the issue is cutting programs that are important to them, it's the same issue public schools all over the US face. That would be programs which communities actually want have to be cut to pay for the garbage the feds demand be taught.
FWIW, MA has a history of standing up for local initiative in determining what is taught.

The “parents” of many of these students are Big Daddy Guvmint, I would venture to guess.

Mine too........

Most of them probably don’t attend half of their current classes so the cuts won’t be an actual loss.

There are states, counties and school districts where far left Democrat liberals control everything. I challenge them to name one such place which "fully funds" education in their opinion. Just one.
They never can. Nor can they define what full funding means. Just more.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania spends an average of $15,000 per year on every public school student. I can show you colleges with tuition much less than that which give high quality education. Yet, it is never enough.

Completely concur these so-called parents likely transitioned all responsibility to Big Government TM long ago.

I suppose it is common in some parts of the country, but it does not seem to me that the schools should be run by the city government. Anywhere I have lived, there has been a separate school board, which has no direct relationship to the mayor, city manager, or city council members.

I’m 72 years old...when I was in school, education was viewed as an opportunity...an opportunity to better yourself and the teachers were all known by the parents and they were a part of the community.
