At first impression one is impelled to say that Donald Trump is utterly irrelevant to this process but when one considers the scurrilous history of Donald Trump's dealmaking one can easily understand how he will broker a deal between McConnell and Obama by the terms of which McConnell agrees to an appointee who will rule against Cruz on natural birth citizenship.

McConnell will go for the deal because he, like Trump, is a dealmaker with the other side and he knows he will be able to cut deals with Trump but not with Cruz and Obama will go for the deal because he will get a leftist judge.

As much adulation as the sTrumpets give to Trump, he has no power in this situation; those candidates who do are the two senators that the sTrumpets abhor, detest, denigrate, lambaste, skewer, lie about, libel, etc. Oh the humanity.

Scalia's passing has changed the course of the campaign. Will it be enough to move the polls against Trump? I doubt it but it should. Suddenly, Ted Cruz's lack of Senate friends and willingness to go along looks very reassuring regarding the Supreme Court. On the other hand, Trump cutting deals, changing rapidly and getting things 'done' looks much less appealing.

Trump is the only one that can stop them.

As I posted earlier, we're going to see a light show from the Media DeathStar on this like we've NEVER seen before.

If Cruz tries to get in the way, he'll be a burnt greasy spot on the planet's surface.

Y’know, I am voting for Trump in the fall, but have a hard time jumping onto the “stall the nomination” bandwagon, as I am not a big fan of do-nothing government. For good or for ill, we have the government that the voters chose, and that includes the GOP COngress (the good) and the 0bummer WHite House (the ill). The GOP Senate can and should do its due diligence with whoever he nominates, but to just run out the clock is not a good use of my tax dollars.

Besides, it opens the true nightmare scenario, that is, what if...if if if...Hillary or Bernie wins? Either of them might put up freakin Obama himself!

Trust me, that won’t happen with Trump. Trump is basically a non partisan candidate and will not state his position. Since Cruz has already stated his preference of take no vote until the next president is elected, Trump will instinctively take the opposite. Trump isn’t interested in the finer points of policy, it’s just not his thing. He’s happy spouting slogans and when he gets in, he will have his people take care of the details. That is what he is used to.

Yep...that’s my odds on favorite. Black & muslim are the two minimum requirements.

This would be the most divisive that he could throw into the election.

Ya know Nino’s best friend on the court was Ginsberg. Not politically obviously. Just a friend. She has been extremely sick for many years. Talk of her retiring has been going on for years. If there was justice on this planet, she would have passed this mortal coil for a well deserved rest a long time ago.

Its like living a nightmare, I can’t believe Scalia is gone. Always had nothing but respect for this brilliant mind, he was by far the best. I of course have a lot of respect for Clarence Thomas but Scalia was always and will always be my favorite. My heart is breaking tonight

Sadly there isn’t any.

And he has nothing to lose by putting on pressure. Hillary and Bernie lose nothing by backing him.

I don’t believe legally Trump can promise anyone anything until after he wins the nomination.

Of course, it’s Obama’s prerogative to nominate someone to the SC.

HOWEVER, it’s also the Senate’s prerogative to put that nomination on hold for as long as it likes. We all learned that little maneuver from Harry “Shiner” Reid.

BTW, thanks Obama for pissing off the country enough to give Republicans control of that Senate. If you hadn’t done that, it would still be in Democratic hands, with a new liberal justice next week, then open season on the Constitution. So thanks for jacking yourself over, Obozo!!

The court can function fine with eight members. There is no call for demanding urgency.

This is not the time. Respect the family and the man right now.

Next week is soon enough to discuss appointments.

I expect Obama to nominate Eric Holder by Wednesday.
Monday is a Federal holiday and Obama already has a Tee time.

Tonight's debate is prime stunt materiel

Not to imply some of the suggestions be viewed as "stunts", but that an announcement as suggested, or Cruz himself asking to be excused and walking off stage ... or any other such action ...

The most watched television event since the invention was invented !

This is whom considers themselves to be “intellectual conservatives”, people. This level of retardation trolls around FR supporting Cruz.
