"We are a very different country than we were 200 years ago," Clinton said. "I believe strongly that in a democracy, we should respect the will of the people and to me, that means it's time to do away with the Electoral College and move to the popular election of our president."

The first lady also said that because of the closeness of this year's presidential election, "I hope no one is ever in doubt again about whether their vote counts."

Clinton was accompanied by Green Island Democrat Rep. Michael R. McNulty, who has co-sponsored electoral college legislation introduced by Illinois Republican Rep. Ray LaHood. LaHood has introduced his bill in each of the last two congressional sessions, but aside from a 1997 hearing granted as a favor by House Judiciary Chairman Henry Hyde, R-Ill., it has not advanced.

McNulty thinks the measure will gain momentum if Gore wins the popular vote but loses the electoral tally.

She’d like to end the electoral college, but she definitely wants to keep the primary superdelegates.

I predicted that dems would come to rue their rejection of the Electoral College in 2000. Everything they do and believe in is based on short-sightedness and emotion.

...says the lady whose campaign remains afloat ONLY because of a vote-weighting “superdelegate” system akin to the Electoral College.

Difference being that the Electoral College was to strengthen the vote of low-population states which would otherwise get trampled by high-population states, while the superdelegate system is just straight-up vote-fixing (consider: Bill Clinton is a superdelegate when his wife is pursuing the nomination). If anything needs to go, it’s the latter.

this turned out to be a wild election ;)

she wan’t likable in the 70s. Again in the 80s. Not the 90s.

2000s, no. Why would she be likable now?

My Polish friend says the electoral college should be free.

Replace the word "Polish" with "Sanders supporting" and you've got a winner there.

lol. Yeah, i feel bad now. My BIL (who passed a few years ago and had TAPS at his funeral because he was a marine corps medic) was a good guy.

and the growing contingent on Staten Island are good, conservative people.

“Sanders Supporting” fits much better. his under 40 followers are morons who stand for nothing worthwhile.

BTW, that TAPS thing and the draping of the flag was a tearjerker.

It will not be long before Bernie and the Hildebeast will be promoting a tuition free electoral college.

Typical BS from a left wing idiot. If it weren’t for the Electoral College her husband would not have been elected in 1992.

rofl!!! and they’ll get votes for it!

And actually, like i said in another post, the Polish here on Staten Island are pretty darn conservative.

They and the crazy Albanians moved into black neighborhoods here and weren’t scared in the least.

culture shock to obama’s sons :)

The Electoral College — although it’s not really a college, & never attended college — will vote to put an end to Hellary’s career.

Obama was able to “beat” the electoral college by capturing districts with more sway....like Philly.
