An Uber driver was arrested after brutally beating a passenger's service dog in Midtown, dislocating the animal's hip and injuring its knee, police said.
The passenger - a 30-year-old woman - got into the car with her terrier on W. 56th St and Broadway around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, according to cops. The driver, Muhammad Qayyum, told the woman she couldn't bring the animal in the vehicle, reports DNAInfo.
After refusing to drive the woman, the 23-year-old driver got out of the car, went to the passenger side and grabbed the dog's leash from her hand, police said. He then threw the dog to the ground.
Qayyum has denied the allegations, an Uber spokeswoman told DNAInfo. She also noted that drivers are required to accommodate service animals.
It's not immediately clear why the woman needed a service dog and Qayyum said no documentation was shown to him. He claims that she punched and verbally assaulted him.
The driver was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and harming a service animal, police said. He was released without bail and an order of protection was filed against him.

A terrier as a service dog? I’m thinking this was one of those fake service dog scams. Arrest the lady. And deport the muzzi, and the country will be a better place.

I have friend who served in Afghanistan and has PTSD. He has a Jack Russell Terrier as his service dog.

This service dog BS is just that a lot of the time. Emotional Support, Companion, blah, blah, blah. Buy the animal some kind of vest with some writing on it and they’re automatically ‘disabled persons’.
This reminds me of an episode of “2 Broke Girls” where a young miss came into the diner and plopped her “Service Dog” on the seat opposite her and expected to be served. Max went through a whole series of questions and translation of the responses that finally ended in “Okay, just tell me the truth and the dog can stay” The young miss finally said “It’s realllllyy hard to meet guys.”
