Oh, too bad. Not that there was much chance of his being alive by now.

I’m sure there are FReepers who have gone duck hinting in a baot — do people often do that during a period major storm activity?

May he rest in God’s eternal peace and that his family finds consolation in God’s love.

I was fishing on a lake in Kansas when an intense thunderstorm blew through. We you are trying to get to shore and can’t see it because of the height of the waves, it scares the hell out of you.

I never went duck hunting in a storm, but a few years ago, we were at church and I told my brother that the Coast Guard had just posted small craft warnings on the Great Lakes.

I asked if we were going sailing after church. We did.

Had a great time. I think that was the first time I’d ever voluntarily worn a PFD in a decent sized boat.

Yes, I had a similar experience while jet-skiing on a large lake; storms can come quickly.

Some guys will hunt (or fish) in weather that I certainly wouldn't take a chance on. The very deadly Armistice Day blizzard of 1940 took a lot of hunters by surprise as the day started out nice, but had there been timely and accurate weather forecasts in those days, my guess is that most people would have stayed put.

Why do people never learn to wear life vests?

*sigh*

He tweeted that he was headed into the storm to hunt. I’m all for hunting, but no sense in trying to fight Mother Nature as she will always win.

I can't speak for the deceased, but when I was in my 20's, I felt I was invincible.

Got caught in a sudden storm on the Mississippi once. Was in a 16’ aluminum outboard. Wasn’t so much scared of the waves as the lightning.

We lost my nephew on a river rafting trip. He went missing, but then a huge storm (numerous tornadoes) blew through within a few hours, and the river flooded. He has never been found. It will be three years in May.

Given the nature of duck hunting and using a boat to go from point A to point B where you're going to set up decoys and sit in the weeds, it's not unusual to forego burdening yourself with the wearing of life vests over all your additional cold weather gear......

I would surmise there are tens of thousands of other active duck hunters out right now who do not have life vests on........That's just the way it is.

Best duck hunting is in crappy weather. Makes them move and fly low.
