Six Reasons Apple Closed 2015 With a Whimper
Fortune ^ | January 1, 2016 | by Philip Elmer-DeWitt

Posted on 01/01/2016 3:37:02 PM PST by Swordmaker

Judging by the fundamentals--things like revenue, earnings, assets, cash flow, profit margins, and growth--Apple had a very good year.

However shares in the world’s most valuable company finished 2015 down 4% from the beginning of the year and off nearly 22% from their 52-week high.

Why the disconnect?

In my comment stream yesterday, a longtime reader who calls himself Merckel spoke for many frustrated shareholders when he boiled it down to six reasons:

“Any one of the above suggests the stock market is inefficient as hell,” Merckel concludes. “That all of the above apply produces a truly asinine Apple stock price.”

I think that Tim Cook damaged Apple’s reputation with his March 29, 2015 announcement that Apple was opposing the Indiana religious liberty law. It may be a coincidence, but Apple stock topped out on April 28, 2015, and has been declining ever since then. Since Tim Cook wrote that he was expressing the opinion of Apple Inc., and not his own personal opinion as a private citizen, I, and perhaps other people, decided that it is appropriate to boycott Apple products. When my wife and I purchased cell phones later in 2015 we did not consider buying iphones.

Good reason to boycott their overpriced junk. Timmy has kept his mouth shut since. Must have recieved orders to stop his in yo face, out gay advocacy

God stated clearly the homosexual lifestyle choice is so evil, perverse, vile & disgusting that He called it an obamanation. He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for embracing homosexuality.

Thimmy’s comments (or anyone trying to use “pretzel logic”) in an attempt to rewrite God’s word is pure evil. Thimmy, and people who believe like he does, are evil and sick and are giving our one true God the “finger”.

Homosexuality is, at best, a mental disorder and, at its’ core is a satan inspired choice. For those, satan is their “god”.

In these times, speaking the truth is a revolutionary act to those who choose satanic evil.

btw, the correct term is “homosexual”...not gay as the satan-inspired leftists have done in redefining our language.

That's true, and in my posts regarding the homosexual agenda and related matters I generally use that correct term. I mourn for the language that I learned as a child, when gay meant joyous and carefree.

Simple answer: I'm a legitimate Apple user since and including the earliest Apple ][ (two decades before FR existed). Swordmaker has sound reason for having me on the ping list -- I'm legitimately interested..

Yet, you could count my 2015 posts to these threads on your fingers.

I have a life.

~~~~~~~~
You, OTOH, are not on Sm's list, yet you manage to be alerted to every Apple thread (HOW?) and spread your insane, lying, ad hominem filth in multiple crap-dumps on every single one.
If you (and everyone who hides behind the "dennisw" FRname) aren't getting paid to be such an @$$#0!3, you definitely belong in an insane asylum.
Get a life!
In the interests of greater employment of alliteration, may I suggest: "...pungent pus pours from its putrid portal".
Mince not our words; let us rather rejoice in the recollection of the redoubtable Spiro Agnew. :-)
> ...yet you manage to be alerted to every Apple thread (HOW?)...
FR's keyword search, is my guess. That same function which provides useful references also points the way for those who aim to disparage.
Actually, of those anti-Apple FReepers who regularly post negative comments on Apple threads, I find Dennis to be one of the least bothersome overall. His comments are generally so wildly over-the-top silly that they're easy to spot and skip; and I sense that he actually has a sense of humor (albeit warped) with regard to his eternal enterprise of bedeviling Swordmaker.
While there certainly are a few truly hateful anti-Apple folks who maliciously mar the Apple threads, I view Dennis as the court jester of that regime. And anyway, I'd much rather poke sarcastic fun back at someone like Dennis who will good-naturedly return that humorous fire, than get caught up in a flamewar with someone who comes off deadly serious.
I mean, it's just an internet forum. Everybody can afford to lighten up at times.
Oh, yes, unquestionably!
And it's a good day for it -- the fun left over from New Years Day is still spilling over. Overcast and a bit chilly (just below freezing here in the rural hills of upstate NY), but overall doing just fine, thanks.
And a Happy New Year to ya!
It’s not quite that simple. Anyone leveraging investments using apple.stock lost. Who cares anyway
What are you blithering about??? People who gamble on stock derivatives should know their risks. And apparently YOU care. You are the one who keeps complaining. Did you lose anything? Apple certainly did not. I sincerely doubt it.
"MCHammer is asking you this."
So -- "MCHammer" is manning the terminal in the "dennisw" cubicle today?
~~~~~~~~~~

"Too legit"? -- Non Sequitur...

~~~~~~~~~~
"Quit"? Quit what? FReeping? Using products that have served me well for nigh-onto 40 years?
Much more likely that I'll dump the PITA Windows laptop here beside me that I use only to run ESRI's ArcGIS software and to keep Windows and its malware off of my workhorse systems.
When ACD Systems finishes porting Canvas 16 (with GIS module) over to the Mac, the above is a near certainty...
~~~~~~~~~~

Nothing "dennisw" or his/her/its FUD-smearing ilk will or can say can change the above.

~~~~~~~~~~
Perhaps "MCHammer" should read (and heed) this poem from the "dennisw" FRProfile page:
This is the beginning of a new day.
God has given me this day to use as I will.
I can waste it or use it for good.
What I do today is very important because I am Exchanging a day of my life for it.
When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever.
Leaving something in its place I have traded for it.
I want it to be a gain, not loss - good, not evil.
Success, not failure in order that I shall not forget the price I paid for it.
Yes, I read you.
I might add that I have discussed this problem with Samsung sales here and they acknowledged that they are getting complaints about this issue, even with the last generation.
That said, the choice is very narrow for a top end Android phone right now and I will have a hard time choosing my next device when my S5 falls apart.
Other than liquidity.
Liquidity has to do with how quickly an asset can be converted to cash. Any stock can be converted to cash as long as there are willing buyers and the seller can have the cash in three business days. That is liquid. Not as liquid as holding in cash, but quite liquid. How did anyone lose liquidity?
Sorry about the late reply, I was going to get my Apple Pencil but Uh Oh! back ordered, get my Smart Keyboard...Uh Oh! back ordered too.
Why would you buy an Apple Pencil or a Smart Keyboard? You haven't got an iPad Pro to go with them, and they only work with the iPad Pro. All you're saying is that Apple is selling every single one of those two products they can produce at this time. Demand is exceeding supply right now. Great position to be in for any company when customers are clamoring for their products.
Even the iPad Pro has a two week delivery back log for online ordering. . . although there are some in some stores. Again, Okie, high demand drives sales and supply.
I got my Apple Pencil to go with my iPad Pro last week. It works great and feels great in use. Far better than any stylus I've ever used on any device. . . and, no, I do not have to plug it into the side of my iPad to charge it. It plugs into a standard Lightning Cable. Using the iPad Pro for charging is intended for only a quick 15 second charge that provides 30 minutes of extra usage. . . and to pair the Apple Pencil to that iPad Pro.
Jobs wasn’t an Edison or a Tesla, he was a Halston or Ralph Lauren. The hard part is breaking the general belief that tech is valuable for itself rather than as Jobs demonstrated just another conspicuous consumption vehicle. It would also be very much in the interest of the rich and powerful to turn tech into a fashion show rather than a source of disruption
~~~~~~~~~ and a happy healthy New Year!
