I suppose the professor should have just given her an “F” and let it at that. Though reading the story it’s hard to tell if she was actually kicked out of the class.
25 Years ago I would have supported the professor. This is college; you need to learn how to back up every statement you make.
But these days, it sounds to me like the professor is guilty of micro-aggressions....

The student was asked to write a critique. Such an assignment should be evaluated not by what she believes, but on how well she argues her point.
And that’s not what happened here.
Free speech gives you the right to speak. It doesn’t force anyone to listen. If you say something in a college class that the professor doesn’t like, expect repercussions.
I am offended by the Professor. It is time to tell them risqué anything is offensive. We need to take back the moral authority to be offended by things that are perverse.

If she publishes her paper then it is freedom of the press and she cannot be punished for that - nor for her words in class.

I think the courts have ruled repeatedly that free speech rights don’t apply in schools. This is a matter that should have stayed within the school.
While “free speech” SHOULD apply in college classrooms, it doesn’t. The very real and practical rule is “Give them what they want.” I got 2 As in philosophy (attending the 1st class, the last class & the final) following that rule. The prof was a commie marxist who had as texts the most howlingly ridiculous marxist claptrap written.
I regurgitated the spew faithfully on papers and tests and got As. The objective wasn’t to learn or be logical, it was to glowingly present marxist spew.
Where’d I learn this rule ? The United States Army.
While I sympathize and agree her viewpoint, the court was right to throw the suit out. While I have always admired and sometimes emulated Frank Zappa’s testimony before the Senate on censorship of rock music (”I think you’re all f....d !”) ya gotta pick your fights.
She should have ridiculed her prof in the right venue.
