Doomsday revisited: will warming deprive us of oxygen?

Paris (AFP) - Global warming has triggered an array of apocalyptic scenarios for future generations, from worsening drought, storms and floods to melted ice sheets and rising seas.

Now a new study, published Tuesday and coinciding with the UN climate talks in Paris, adds to the grim tableau: the risk that warming at the far end of the scale could rob our planet of oxygen.

"We have identified another possible consequence of ... global warming that can potentially be more dangerous than all others," say a pair of scientists from Britain's University of Leicester.

Photosynthesis does better when it is warm — for example: trees loose all of their leaves and go dormant when it is cold and thrive and are lush when it is warm.

Thus, cold is bad, warm is good.

It was 8-10°F warmer when the dinosaurs were running around, with no ice at the poles.
And life did just fine then.
