What type do you recommend. eBay has every size, type, shape. Just MrC4E and me at home now. Interestingly enough, I have been retracting myself how to make my own bread, soups, yogurt, crackers etc. I like doing it and like the idea of eating food with less additives and preservatives.
Your list of supplies and such are doable even for us seniors. Could you include some further information for those of us who are seniors? I have already taken steps for MrC4E and myself, just common sense things, to shelter in place. Any further tips would be appreciated.

Even the poor living in apartments can stock up on beans, rice,whole wheat, whole corn(& pickling Lime to cook the corn with in an enameled pan), a low cost hand powered grain grinder, baking soda/& dry yeast. White 5 gallon empty buckets and lids can be purchased from donut shops for $1.00 or picked up free,washed out and used to store grains, noodles, etc.
Oils and fats are important but can go stale-not healthy...
can rotate or give to food bank if getting close to “expiration” date.
Salt and sugar can be kept almost forever if protected from moisture.
Most dry spices can be kept for years...some freeze for several days before storage-I believe many are irradiated before sale.
Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers are great, but food grade diatomaceous earth can be added to grains and beans to prevent/kill bugs(use a dust mask M95 best). Some people freeze their grains for a few days and then put in “plastic” pop bottles for rodent protection.
Clean water is very important-Sawyer now has a $20.00 filter good for thousands of gallons of water-has to be back flushed some. Some water can be stored in clean “pop” bottles with 1 or two drops of plain Clorox...(Clorox and other bleaches will turn to salt water in 12 months)
Some people just buy two cans of food, use one and save one...but rotate so it stays fresh.
Fish antibiotics(with nothing added)...some overseas (India) prescription meds can be imported for your own use...again Buyer beware. Be informed.
U.S. Military did a study that said most antibiotics are good for 7 years past date-Exception is probably Tetracycline and Doxycycline-which may develop crystals that would be dangerous to the patient. Don’t take antibiotics unless you need them and try to “study to show thyself approved”, do it the right way. I go to the doctors and usually do what they tell me because they have studied the subject..A person that treats themselves has a fool for a patient(applies to doctors also).
I have 25 of these on hand and the fixture to refill the small bottles from these 20 pound bottles.
You remind me of my parents whenever there was can goods on sale. We would head out to the store and buy a case instead of a few cans. My father would ask the clerk if he can bring out a case for us, and yep he would. Your right, can goods sale is a good way to start prepping.

I purchased a 5 gallon still and have learned how to distill some kickass ethanol. 196Proof / 88% EtOH...
I cut it down to 42% with some nice Colorado spring water and VOILA!, ready for some mixer and slice.
It also burns nicely in a lamp!
It’s nice to buy six cans of tomato sauce for six dollars and then get 40 or 50 cents a gallon off gas as part of the store’s rewards program. I keep my eyes open for the best buy/bonus, and that often means nearly free food. I’m careful not to be too much like my parents (not to get food that no one particularly wants to eat just because it’s cheap). I get what I wanted anyways, just not the very week I want it. i get it when it’s cheap.

Have lost too many lights and other battery powered things to the damn AA and AAA batteries bursting and finding out too late to save the things.
It’s easy to forget that you probably have 25 or 30 gallons of spare water in your water heater, too.
o I agree we used alot of tomato sauce for cooking and that was the only item we brought in cases.
Yes, it all depends on what you plan on powering.
A marine battery 24F, 40 watt solar panel, and 300 - 600 watt dc to ac power inverter can acquired cheaply, ie auto parts and Harbor Freight.
A flexible 15 watt solar panel is nice since it’s light and doesn’t shatter if dropped. Large deep cycle sealed lead acid battery can work to for smaller applications.
For the most part, you can forget about running most large applicances, well pumps and heaters on solar power systems, unless you have large kilowatt storage capacity costing ten thousand+.
