Eat Better Episode 2 - Ketogenic Diets
Do read the notes below, because I forgot to mention a couple of things!
Dr. Tommy Wood (www.drragnar.com) and Chloe Archard (www.paleo-britain.co.uk) cover some regular about ketogenic diets, and their place in health and disease.
For most people, starting with a diet that removes processed grains and oils, and focuses on vegetables and high quality meat and fat, as well as addressing things like sleep, stress, and exercise, will get them the results they want in terms of long-term health.
If you are struggling with long-term health and chronic disease, consider looking at the work of:
⢠Chris Kresser: www.chriskresser.com ⢠Sarah Ballantyne: http://www.thepaleomom.com/
These guys both have a huge amount of disease-specific information on their websites. The key here seems to be healing any chronic inflammatory problems (gut permeability, autoimmune disease etc), before attempting something like a ketogenic diet.
Notes:
The Ketogenic diet was developed at the Mayo clinic in the 1920âs, not 20 years ago. Sorry, slip of the tongue.
When weâre talking about eating lots of vegetables during a ketogenic diet, we really mean it. You can eat almost 1kg of low-carb veggies (like salad, greens, cabbage, aubergine, onions, and cauliflower etc) per day without eating more than 50g of carbs in a day, as they did in this trial: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/artic...
Low carbohydrate and ketogenic diets have also been shown to improve metabolic health and fat loss in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which is also hallmarked by insulin resistance (as in type 2 diabetes).
There is a possibility that fat loss might stall on a ketogenic diet, because [....]

This video is one in a series of videos and websites which are being posted on FreeRepublic in the coming days in regard to nutritional health. In the beginning these videos were being posted as a rebuttal to an article and comments in another posted article on FreeRepublic remarking on obesity. Due to the strong interest in obesity and nutritional health as it relates to Type II Diabetes, the videos relating to Type II diabetes and how to reverse the progression of the disease are being moved forward among the other video topics in this series. Expect to see a mixture of videos regarding the role of carbohydrates in the diet and their relationship to nutritional health topics ranging from metabolic syndrome and Diabetes to dementia, Parkinson's Disease, Altzheimer's Disease, and more. The effects of standard government sponsored diets, health association diets, and alternative diets upon everyday nutrition, sports nutrition, and diabetic nutrition will be mixed in with videos focused on the use of various low carbohydrate and high fat (LCHF) diets, such as the ketogenic diets as a treatment for Type II Diabetes.

Seriously?! more of this C$%#? How much are paid to promote this?
I find the posts both interesting and useful, suggest if this issue doesn’t interest you, skip it.
At least we have bacon... just make sure it's nitrate-free.
Some of us are interested in this. Some of us are sick of every stinking thing being political. If you aren’t interested in the thread, there are plenty of others.
So? Are we supposed to just give up? Maybe some of us realize the need to get in better shape? I know I am over 50 and anything that can help me stay in shape, I am interested in. There may come a day when I have to go off grid and defend me and mine. I would like to be in optimal health.
Thanks for posting. I appreciate the information.
Many of us want to see this information. Watch the videos. You may learn some important dietary facts.
Nitrate-free meat is a scam. They simply add celery juice in place of the nitrate. Celery juice is loaded with nitrates. You end up getting more nitrates than you would with regular bacon -- and pay a lot more to boot. That being said, I have seen no evidence that nitrates are harmful.
YOU GET IT!
I am on the bacon grease, coffee, and lucky strikes diet.
I will probably hit 100 years-old, so long as the Feds don’t show up at the farm.
