One my classmates in a HS quiz show did the same to his fellow classmate, a girl who had close to zero points. We knew the dude had the answers but everyone in the audience knew what he was doing when he went silent on some questions everyone knew and kept nodding at the girl, almost saying “answer it, it’s yours”.
