That’s exactly what happened and should happen today, except we have turned this country into ‘pink laced pantie boys’ instead of real men.....

I was too young in the 60s to know how the student uprisings occurred, but I’ve always been under the impression that it was a student grass roots movement against the establishment. Unlike the top down way that these things are happening now. It is not being driven from the ground up in 2015. Obama is behind this. The establishment is behind this.

Well, I do not believe that Reagan would have used buckshot and tear gas to force a football team to play football.

We need to remember that the issue in the current case revolves around the fact that the college was about to lose seven figures per game in the event that the team refused to play. Tim Wolfe quit because this college has become overly dependent upon football revenue. Colleges should not become overly dependent on football teams if they want to be independent to make administrative decisions. The tail is wagging the dog here.

It was against "the establishment" but it was no more grass roots then that it is now. Guys like Saul Alinski and his disciples were agitating from the shadows.

Wait until some other football teams (Michigan, for example) figure out what kind of power they have. The revenue from some of these teams is enormous. There is a real problem brewing for schools that have become dependent on these teams.

Frances Fox Piven is another one of the agitators who were happily stirring the pot back then as well.

Having been to the huge stadium at Michigan, I know that they are talking big bucks if the team goes on strike. Schools need to do something to protect themselves.

But these people were not “establishment” at the time. Today they are. They sure laid low for a long long time.

If college teams are going to go on strike, it would be a great time for the NFL to speak up and suggest that they won’t be seeking prospects with a history of causing trouble or disrupting.

Schools need to do something to protect themselves.

I imagin quite a few meetings are taking place right now in Academia to address this problem.

" Well, I do not believe that Reagan would have used buckshot and tear gas to force a football team to play football. "

No need to, just hold them to the terms of their scholarship agreement.

Thirtysomething guys, according to the group photo, on the team holding the whole school hostage? Expel their butts and let some guys play who want to play, even if they lose.

Watch, after the season's over there will be a mass exodus out of the MU football team, both of assistant coaches and athletes. I betcha the phone calls are being made even as we freep.

MU will lose more money in the long run, they saved a fast nickel and they're going to lose much more than a slow dime as the retention of coaches and players suffers, as will hiring and recruiting new talent. I would even say that I won't be surprised should the SEC reconsider their membership when everything comes to light.

Yes, to your point that in many cases money runs the athletic programs that run the universities. Whoever made this decision to coddle these guys will regret it in the long run.

The people running some of our government were the babies of this ‘make love not war’ era....

Woodstock, Berkley, The Flower Children, San Franciso....

Now you know why we are like we are....
