So how did Trump do on SNL? (vanity)
me

If you've got a mind to, give Trump two grades (A to E each) for his recent SNL appearance. One grade for how much he helped his candidacy, and one grade for his entertainment value.

I didn't watch the show myself, but I've read some mixed reviews on the Net. So I'm curious what Freepers have to say.

The writing talent is just not there. And who is that ridiculous singer with the hair?

Some of the skits were ok, the future look at a Trump presidency had some chuckles, as well as one where he was an “electric harp” (or something) in a band who wasn’t getting as much airtime as the rest of the members.

Overall, I think both sides played it safe. Trump wasn’t about to let himself be used by SNL to brutally mock conservatism.

It went about as well as I expected. Trump maintained full control over the skits he was featured in which meant they weren't terribly funny but they weren't harmful either. He came through unscathed and that's all that really matters.

And he got a few weeks of free publicity, something Trump is very good at.

I loved when the Pres of Mexico handed Trump the check to build the wall.

“Oh, thanks! It’s too much!”, said Trump. “No, no...it’s not”, said Enrique.

(Something along those lines.)

Loved Ivanka as one of the Secretaries.

Other than that....the writing was pretty much meh.

Trump did great with the lines he was given.

However, if Trump were the writers boss, he would have fired most of
them. Overall, the writing was not very good or funny.

Mr. Donald J Trump, Candidate for President, from NYC made his SNL debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards.
His comedic timing, necessary to make the show
consistently interesting, was lacking.

Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order.

Checked her out on YouTube as I did not watch the show.

One of her videos has 975,000,000 views!

We are out of it. I never heard of her either.

My two cents viewing it from an election viewpoint:

Positive. It showed he has a sense of humor, especially about himself. The Oval Office skit was pure gold, showing the future in which the wall is built, China failing, and more. Showed the democrats as nuts, and Hillary as a fake.

As entertainment, the show sucks, which it almost always has. The humor is flat, the skits too long, and there's no funny personalities to carry the load (Ackroyd, Murray, Murphy, etc...)

I couldn’t agree more with your assessment.

I might add that watching that poor excuse for a comedy/entertainment show thoroughly reinforced my decision of roughly 20 years ago to NOT watch SNL - because it totally lacks the writing and the great personalities of the past. The original crew was still the best - by far. Only the crew with Eddie Murphy came close, and not too close at that.

Oh, and WTF is up with that stupid beotch with the terrible voice who mumbles everything and covers up 3/4 of her face with that hair/toupe/tie-died raccoon?

No writing talent and no character talent... Comparing these people to Belushi, Murray, Carvey, etc and ect... Like the Patriots vs. your local community college flag football team.

Trump did better than I expected. CNN is frantic to point out every possible way to state how the show will hurt Trump and is right now focusing on the demonstrators. I didn't hear them they say how many were demonstrating.

I didn't see Hillary on the show, so I cannot compare them.

FWIW, as I understand it, it was not his debut; he had hosted in 2004 as well.

Never heard or saw her either. Weird...

Of course if it wasn't for Trump, we'd still be blissfully ignorant.

It was just okay, but not necessarily because of Trump. The writing is terrible. The only really LOL for me was the opening skit with Rachel Maddow interviewing the Dem candidates. They skewered the candidates and MSNBC.

Not everyone likes SNL, especially older people. Nothing wrong with that and it was smart for Trump to appear on SNL. Exposure to different demographic groups in ‘their’ environment will help win crossover votes.

Portions of the skits were funny as all get out. Some stuff was just so-so. For sure the porn queens not being in the White House since the '90s was over a few peoples’ head, but I cracked up. Overall, it was a plus for Trump.

I'm gonna take a bet that SNL's ratings will be even lower than before Trump. He showed the world how deficient they really are.

It was a version of "The Apprentice"...live from NY.

It was OK, nothing hilarious which is SNL’s standard M.O. Comedy doesn’t really exist on that show anymore. Trump dancing was pretty funny, but other than that I think it did give him a good boost. Larry David at the start called him a “racist” but it was in a comedy context which I thought was brilliant as it immediately neutralized the the negative vibe of the criminal foreign invaders protesting. Then they had this “musical” guest Sia on which was about the most retarded thing I ever seen on my life when it came to a “musical” guest on that show. How these morons posing as “musicians” ever get plum gigs like that I’ll never know.

He did great.

SNL is mostly for the late night college crowd and he won them over.

Now when anyone criticizes Trump, some will think there must be a joke in their somewhere.

And when they find out the criticizer is serious, they’re going to think ‘how uncool’.

Skits included Trump making fun of himself, Hillary as a cackling witch-like plotter, Trump tweeting how others were losers, etc. And the tweets happened during performances of other cast members who would stop and look around in bewilderment “What’s he saying?”; they were hilarious.

Those that criticize this SNL appearance fall into categories of yesteryear’s admiration of old SNL cast stars and joke writing, sanctimonious blah, perpetual Trump haters, and political tripesters.

But this was the 19 to 24-year-old demographic for which the current SNL is the standard, and it was great for them. No way will they vote for Hillary now; Trump will become their new thing.

The college crowd has something new now to talk about. And they won’t be able to bad mouth Trump as much or stomach those that constantly hype on racism, “deport racism” and all that rot.

Trump won here.
