This isnât about how long you sit in traffic. That's just one part of it. This is about the entire godawful experience that is commuting on the US interstate system, day in and day out, navigating around terrifying Final Destination-esque scenarios, jostled by relentless potholes that the bottleneck-inducing, 365-days-a-year construction never seems to fix.
Here are the absolute worst freeways in America, as determined by a metric of suck that weâre calling the Total Horribleness Index. Basically, we combed through a ton of data from the Federal Highway Administration to find out just how awful a city's traffic really is. It's based on three main factors:

I-35 from Dallas to San Antonio. I avoid it like the plague.
There is no highway in the country worse than the Cross Bronx Expressway in NYC. Sorry.
Blah blah blah government failure in designing roads.
But Obamacare is going to be great!
We can built Interstate Highways from coast to coast, but can’t built a single Boarder Wall we’re told.
Familiar with that. You hope and pray your car does not experience any problems requiring you to pull over.
We’ve been back, living in the US for 5 years now, come February. Of the states whose interstates we’ve traversed visiting family, the roads in SC, Alabama, IN and KY are the worst we’ve traveled on so far. Never been out west of TX, so I have no idea about them.
I-95 through Providence does suck bad.
So am I, every Freeway is jacked up big time. 210,10,605,110,105,405,710,170,134,
I Dare ANY Public Servant to drive any of the above freeways with a HOT Cup of Coffee in their Hand! My 1 mile Dirt Road to my house is in better shape than most LA Freeways!
x100
Yep. I would rather go miles out of my way that drive that gauntlet.
I880 in San Jose isn’t at all bad. Its I880 in the east bay area that sucks.
I80 is horrible everywhere, from SF all the way to past Sacramento.
This list is invalid.
Not even ONE mention of what has been called ‘the worst traffic in America’...Seattle. I-5, I-405, both are utter nightmares.
Same here.
I also refuse to drive the 1-10 in Louisiana. Just horrible.
I-285 northwest of Atlanta.
That spot west of Chicago where I-90 comes together with 94 and 294 or something like that.
I-66 between DC and Falls Church. It was awful in the late ‘80s. I couldn’t imagine it now.
New Jersey Turnpike near the George Washington Bridge
Whichever one I’m on at the time is the worst one.
I remember when I first got a CD player before they had skip protection and I tried driving I-10 from Lake Charles to the Mississippi line. I had to turn it off because of the gumbo soil. It was like riding a buckboard on the Oregon Trail.
O, Brother. Where art thou?
Actually, when it said “405” I think it mentioned all the main arteries.
