Editorâs note: The release of the new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens reignited prior debates about the general nature of the goodness of the Jedi and the villainy of the Empire. We reached out to the author of the definitive piece making the case for the Empire, Jonathan Last, to offer reasons that the Jedi are actually the bad guys.
1. Midi-Chlorians Oh, you thought you could totally be down with the Force if you just reached out with your feelings and did-or-did-not? You thought the Force would be with you if you appreciated the worth of all living things?

Hilarious. Not as funny as the ‘argument” that Daniel was the real instigator & bad guy in Karate Kid. ;)
But, do we know what Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda thought about homosexual marriage or global warming, income inequality, carbon footprints, equality for women in combat, etc????
If they were against gay marriage, then you know they’re the bad guys. Hollywood is very clear in that regard.

You are right on. I hope this new Star Wars movie will not have liberal messages about gays or the environment sprinkled into the plot.
Man the nerd is strong in that piece.
Anakin built a gay robot and had great difficulty in relationships with women his own age.
Many years ago, I read somewhere that if the whole premise of the Empire and the Rebellion were to apply to real life, intelligent people would root for the Empire.
They defended trade routes with their massive military presence. They maintained order. They got things done quickly.
The Rebellion’s destruction of such a successful organization would have plunged the galaxy into chaos and anarchy.
Why certainly. It's amazing what you can do with a little fascism. Hitler's NAZIs built amazing things, Mussolini's trains ran on time, too.
Did zey make ze trains run on time?
I needed the humor. Thank you.
I AM JAR JAR BINKS!!!
As more fully explained, the evil Empire then came to look like something Noam Chomsky and Michael Moore might have thought up over a weekend of heavy bong hits. I suspect that we had but a narrow escape from seeing the Emperor made to look and sound like Ronald Reagan.
It’s a false dichotomy. The Empire/Sith aren’t good guys, by any stretch of the imagination. But neither are the Jedi - elitist and arrogant to the point of near corruption, while simultaneously being blind to the one thing they should have been good at detecting and defeating.
