You’re breaking my heart, Stu. I don’t care if numbnut reviewer/JJ Abrams fanbois galore luv it and if it makes a billion bucks, it will never be Star Trek. It’s a Faux Trek abortion with moronic scripts that destroy 5 decades of canon at will, teeny-bopper actors that insults our intelligence, and vomit-inducing lens flare. Faux Trek I was insulting enough, Faux Trek II: Into Dorkness with pasty-face missing Walton cousin Benedict Cucumberpatch as Khan was the coup de grace.
This franchise is nothing but a Star Wars fan doing everything he can to piss all over Star Trek like a bad SNL skit. I’d sure love to see what a vicious Trekker could do to the Star Wars franchise if given hundreds of millions to do it (if George Lucas hadn’t beaten them to the punch by ruining it himself with the prequels).
Before my son, a former Marine, went to Afghanistan I took him to Philly to see the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the Franklin Institute. They just happened to have the Next Generation bridge and other parts of the set on display. As an infant he fell asleep during the re-runs and probably still watches when he can. Picard is who he liked the most. I liked Warf.
You think it’s Faux Trek. Many other love it. And you don’t get to decide what is and isn’t Trek.
What’s funny is that you apparently saw the second one. You knew you’d hate it, but you saw it anyway. And we both know you’ll see the next. The constant complainer section of fandom is always the same. They see things just to bitch about them. It’s like dropping a hammer on your foot just to complain about gravity. Since everybody knows you won’t like it DON’T WATCH IT. That’s what normal sane people do. I knew I wouldn’t like the Man from UNCLE movie, so I didn’t watch it.
Complainers are the most idiotic and annoying of fans. They give fen a bad name. Really the cure is simple:

And don’t post about it. People who come onto threads just to tell people how much they hate the subject are just twits.
You’ll find your life a lot more enjoyable if you stop spending so much time on things you hate.
I don’t THINK it’s Faux Trek, it IS Faux Trek. It’s a farce and bears no resemblance to the show I grew up with whatsoever. Teenage children pretending to be adult MILITARY officers ? WTF ?!? Wesley Crusher on TNG was bad enough (and sent off before long), but a shipload of Wesleys ?
I watched “Into Dorkness” to see how bad it would be (since how could I review it if I didn’t see it ?). It was not only awful, it was epic ridiculousness across the board. That was not Khan. This movie was so horrible that I had a dream that the late Ricardo Montalban showed up in my kitchen and told me how angry and offended he was at what they had done with his signature character. It reminded me of when they had some blonde actor playing a blonde Ming the Merciless in a recent “Flash Gordon” production. It’s appalling and a slap in the face to fans.
You can slap a name on anything, you can call the resident of the White House “President”, but it doesn’t make it so.
Again, you don’t get to make that call.
You watched #2 because the complainer crowd feels the desperate need to watch what they know they won’t like so they can complain.
The only people getting slapped in the face are the people who WANT to. You could have not watched it. But you did.
Well, Stu, I made the call. Just because you love a steaming, non-canon, turd and abortion of the Star Trek franchise doesn’t mean the rest of us do and will remain silent about it.

I don’t give a damn what you love and worship. I’m just making fun of you for seeking reasons to complain and making stupid complaints. Paramount OWNS Trek, THEY decide what is and isn’t Trek. The fan base at best suggests whether or not they made a mistake. And the revenue picture on the last movies shows the fan base is totally cool with Paramount calling them Trek, REAL Trek, CANON Trek.

It has its place. As a QA engineer I’m a well paid professional complainer. But there’s that breed of complainer in fen that are just silly about it. They’ll watch years of a TV show just so they can tell everybody how bad the show sucks. They’re probably Yelp reviewers too (#southpark).
No it is canon. You don’t own the series bible. Paramount decides what’s canon.

And DS9 is by far my favorite series. And it did make it to reruns, Spike showed it for a long time.
