A three-year restoration project at St. Patrick's Cathedral, the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York and one of the country's most well-known churches, is coming to an end just in time for a late September visit from Pope Francis. Most of the scaffolding has already been taken down and officials are steadfast in saying it will be done in time.

The project was officially announced on St. Patrick's Day 2012 and got started soon after. It was a huge undertaking — the entire exterior was covered in scaffolding, all the way to the top of the two 330-foot-tall spires, and washed clean of decades of dirt. Scaffolding also blanketed the inside, as workers cleaned and repaired the 3,700 individual panels in 75 stained glass windows and restored the 9,200-pound bronze doors at the Fifth Avenue entrance, among other extensive renovation work.

Just got back from visiting the parents in NYC metro area. Took a look at the restored St. Patrick's and it looks like a spanking new church. Amazing cleaning of decades worth of soot and the like.

Of course the commie Pope or lib Cardinal Dolan will not acknowledge that the money to rebuild the church came from wealthy NY capitalists not socialists. These two idiots will be preaching how we should open the doors for any and all illegals. Maybe the big mouth Cardinal will open up St. Pat’s to house the thousands of homeless in NYC. what a bunch of hypocrites.

Went to Mass at St. Patrick’s a few years ago. What a nice experience. I also get to Christmas Eve Mass at the Vatican about 10 years ago and was in the 7th row which was great. It is wonderful that the Pope will be able to appreciate St. Patrick’s while he is here.

? I’ve been for mass there — latest in February this year and it is pretty well attended. Wasn’t packed to the beams, but was not empty
