Surrender on weekly bin collections! Ministers axe pledge to bring back seven-day rubbish rounds because they are 'very expensive' Despite years of promises and £250million investment, plan was scrapped Scheme was supposed to encourage town halls to reinstate weekly rounds But sources confirmed there would be 'no new bin initiatives' last night Critics have slammed ministers for breaking a 'clear promise' to voters

Despite years of promises and a £250million investment, ministers have concluded their bin promise cannot be met

Despite years of promises and a £250million investment, ministers have concluded their bin promise cannot be met A Tory pledge to bring back weekly rubbish collections is to be abandoned. Despite years of promises and a £250million investment, ministers have concluded their bin promise cannot be met. The costly scheme was supposed to encourage town halls to reverse the trend toward fortnightly collections. But none has reinstated weekly rounds and a number have scrapped them. A Government source confirmed last night there would be ‘no new initiatives’ aimed at restoring weekly collections. In opposition, the Conservatives made a high-profile pledge to restore the ‘fundamental right’ of families to have their bins emptied every seven days. The promises continued in office, with Eric Pickles setting up the failed £250million scheme as Communities Secretary.

Your smelly trash will be picked up fortnightly

TRANSLATION #2:
This means every fourteen days

Yikes! Those trash cans are pretty ripe by the time they are emptied. Here in the south, it would be considered a health hazard.

What this means is that the nazi recycle movement that has led to only one trash pick up per week in America has led to only one trash pick up every two weeks in the UK.

The (Tories), the UK version of our own rinos, promised voters to go back to a eekly trash pickup but then broke their promise.

I’m billed for trash pickup on my city water bill:~$13/mo.

Regular trash on Tuesday. Brush/tree limbs on Wednesday. Recycled and regular trash on Friday.

I live alone so don’t generate a lot of trash, but the pick up schedule does keep the neighborhood nice and at about 43 cents a day it’s worth it!

I’ll bet they could save a whole bunch of money if they just pickup the trash every other year.

You are correct!! So much is spent on recycling that real trash can only be picked up every two weeks

Weekly household rubbish collections came into law in 1875. But the last Labour government gave councils the green light to shift to fortnightly collections to help meet EU recycling targets.

The move led to millions of people losing their weekly rounds – a development the Conservatives pledged to reverse.
