On Sunday and Monday, foreign ministers and other international leaders met in Anchorage, Alaska to attend the Conference on Global Leadership in the Arctic. As a sign of the importance the United States placed on the Alaska forum, President Barack Obama attended. He used the conference as a platform for urging swifter action to combat climate change. After the conference, the representatives of the Arctic Council members signed a joint statement affirming “our commitment to take urgent action to slow the pace of warming in the Arctic.”

“our commitment to take urgent action to slow the pace of warming in the Arctic.”

Looks like somebody is gonna be getting a nice fat contract to build and ship some HUGE HVAC units to Alaska. For crap sake, how simple can it get. Sheesh. Maybe some huge ice makers to help rebuild the melting glass-ee-ers while there at it.

Does anyone think this matters to Obama? If so then you have to believe he's sincere in his belief that globull warming is a threat.

He'll make America comply whether or not anyone else does, this is were the carbon taxes are.

100 desalination facilities along each African coastline with infrastructure running inland will solve everyone’s (except liberals and dictators) problems.

With fresh water, crops will grow, which will end hunger.
With new economy created, jobs will bring in money, which will end poverty.
With desalination facilities, water will be extracted from the oceans, stopping the threat of flooding from AGW.

Basically the greening of the African continent makes much more scientific and financial sense than anything any scientist or politician has claimed.

I can't imagine why I initially read that as “our commitment to fake urgent action to slow the pace of warming in the Arctic.”

So, if the council members signed the agreement, how was he rebuffed?

Certainly it matters to him. Not that he's terribly concerned about global warming. It's his legacy as the "environmental" President which explains the importance of getting something passed with a coalition (that's an important part too) of many other countries.

” rebuffed”? Maybe there’s a new definition for the word. That I don’t want to know. Maybe they “re-doubled” their “rebuffing”? I don’t know.

Has this “environmental” president thought about the environmental damage that a whackjob country like Iran would cause once they have the bomb?

Oh my gosh, the havoc you would inflict on gaia with so much more area of plants sucking the CO2 out of the atmosphere, just think of the regional climate change and destruction of local eco systems, are you a madman? ;^)

I’ll buy the part about wanting to be seen as leading a coalition.

India and China politely told him to pound sand.

What’s he gonna do, send EPA jackboots up to Alaska to write up everybody up there who heats with wood?

I’m beyond embarrassed to have this idiot as president.

2016 cannot come soon enough.

Hell, I didn’t think 2012 could come soon enough. My thinking went down in flames. Lowered Old Glory that night and she only sees the light of day on certain days.

From the article:

"While visiting Alaska and becoming the first American president to enter the Arctic Circle, President Obama announced Tuesday he would speed up the acquisition of icebreakers to help the U.S. Coast Guard navigate an area that Russia and China increasingly see as a new frontier."

But...
why is there a need for more ice-breakers if the ice is receding so badly?

While visiting Alaska and becoming the first American president to enter the Arctic Circle, President Obama announced Tuesday he would speed up the acquisition of icebreakers to help the U.S. Coast Guard navigate an area that Russia and China increasingly see as a new frontier. The announcement is the latest power play in the Arctic north, where melting ice has led to a race for resources and access. Forty percent of the world’s oil and natural gas reserves lie under the Arctic. Melting ice also would lead to new shipping routes, and Russia wants to establish a kind of Suez Canal which it controls. More than a Cold War, Russia may be preparing for an Ice War, and the Pentagon is taking note. —Jennifer Griffin, Fox News, 2 September 2015
