OShea Jackson Jr., 24, is receiving rave reviews for playing Ice Cube in the hit N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton.
You could say he was born to play the role, as hes the real-life son of N.W.A. member, Ice Cube, whose real name is OShea Jackson. But the part wasnt handed to him.
To earn the role, Jackson went through a grueling two-year process that included constant auditions and working with three different acting coaches.
Its all these things to build confidence within me, Jackson told Entertainment Weekly about the process.
And though Cube was supportive of this sons growth, as a producer on the film he had to find the best actor to play himself.
If we found a better Cube, then we had to go with the best man for the job, Cube told People. Thats how acting and movie shoots work. So I couldnt give it to him and I wouldnt if I could because thats easy.
Actors and rappers also auditioned for the role, with a shortlist coming down to Jackson and two others gunning for the Cube role, Jackson added to People.
But the final decision didnt come down to who had the look or tone of Cube, but who had the best rapping skills.

He spent two years learning how to play his father as a part in a movie? Sounds like a kid with daddy issues.
I am shocked at how well this movie is doing in theaters.
I am shocked that Middle America is going to see a movie about rappers coming up out of the ghetto. Given that rap is one of the major negative influences in the black community, with its stories of violence, including violence against women and police, I’m surprised that such an anti-social movie is getting such good reviews from critics and selling tickets.
Of course, we aren’t allowed to say what “NWA” stands for. Black people are allowed to say, but the rest of us can’t say otherwise be banned from society.
Why anyone gives these people any notice is beyond me.

I really believe Hollywood press releases...
This is important, why?
“He can’t act.”
“Yeah, but he looks just like his dad.”
“But he can’t act.”
“So, we’ll bring in an acting coach.”
“We’ve tried that.”
“We’ll bring in a DIFFERENT acting coach.”
“We tried that too.”

This is important because the liberals and race baiters have decided that a movie about rappers is a movie of sociological and cultural significance. If you disagree then you are racist.
Just as people were anti gay if they didn’t go see Brokeback Mountain, and racist for seeing American Sniper instead of Selma, you will be racist if you don’t go see this Compton.movie and like it.
Just due to political.correctness, there should be many Oscar nominations for this movie.
