Everyone wants an iPhone. Even those who use Android phones may not want to admit it, but in their heart of hearts, they wouldnt bat an eye if they were offered an iPhone for free.
But not everyone can afford an iPhone. Beautiful and easy to use it may be, the iPhone is still a premium device, like it or not. In fact, some people wouldnt have been able to afford theirs if not for carrier subsidies (if you can call it that). Without a telco contract, the iPhone price point can be a burden.
That being said, have you ever been curious about the iPhone cost around the world? In the US, the average is $649. This is according to a report by WebpageFX, who did some research, looked at some data, and did the math.
They looked at different countries and figured out how much people pay for their iPhones, and the results are rather interesting. While iPhones are pretty much the same in every country, there are significant differences in pricing. Believe it or not, the difference in price between the cheapest and most expensive is more than $400!
To find out more about the details, here is the infographic showing the iPhone cost around the world. The figures in the graphic are based on the iPhone 6 pricing as of July 2015. According to the guys at WebpageFX, they compared the cost to the median annual household income to get a better idea of how affordable they really are.

> Comparison of the retail prices of Apple iPhones around the world. . . Interesting. U.S. consumers pay the least. PING!
I would guess it might have something to do with the volume we buy them in and the reduced cost for signing a service contract thatbthey use as an inducement.
The iPhone is manufactured in China, the Chinese buy more iPhones than Americans and yet the iPhone is more expensive in China.
Fact is a more open competitive smart phone market drives prices down.

More expensive in the Philippines too, but I think it is the taxes, not necessarily the iPhone itself.
Yep. Forgot to put that in there.
I would love to have one. I see 10 yo’s to older teens with IPhones but I cannot afford it. I’ll stick with my 3 phone Android family plan and pay $95 a month for all services.
WRONG! I do not want, need or desire a iphone. Written like a true cult piece from the cult of Apple.
I got my Iphone for $50 and starting a two year contract with AT&T. Mind you, it was in 2011 and I got a 3gs which was already old technology at the time.
I just had to have one, because I didn’t want to stand out at the Whole Foods store.
But I do use it at work quite a bit.
Everyone?
Everyone is a big word.
I don't want one. I purposefully chose a Droid. If offered an iPhone for free I would certainly take it, and have the thing for sale on eBay within 5 minutes.
It's also true that in a competitive market, if you have a better product, you can charge more.
Apple has higher standards for privacy than other phone manufacturers, which is an attractive feature in an era of (or a society concerned with) government snooping.
You'd think Apple could build them in the USA and employ Americans.
“The iPhone is manufactured in China”............
Almost EVERYTHING is manufactured in China thanks to our politicians and greedy unions.
Last year, I walked in ATT to upgrade my old iPhone 3gs to an Android phone. I got the iPhone 4s because it was cheaper. When this phone croaks my plan will once again be to go Android... assuming the iPhone isn’t cheaper.
My oldest is heading off to college and my wife’s phone was approaching antique status (i think that’s 20 years right so maybe off a bit).
So finally broke down and bought the ladies cell phones - figured the youngest is going in just a bit away anyway. (hold off was really my wife’s decision). It’s the 5c which is the cheapest version and using verizon (for coverage at the house they have the best reception) minimal data (they are in heavy wifi environments so don’t really need the data), unlimited voice and text - ended up at ~$110/month after taxes and such.
Funny thing is I tried to nearly 3 weeks to give my money to virgin mobile, but their website and customer service were so bad that I finally had to just give up. Would have only saved me about $20/month, but I’ll gladly pay that given the lack of service I just dealt with.
