The world's most 'liveable' cities 2015
The Economist ^ | 08/18/2015

Posted on 08/19/2015 2:27:31 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

WHILE residents of Melbourne enjoy another year in the world’s most liveable city, according to the 2015 Global Liveability Ranking from our corporate cousin the Economist Intelligence Unit, spare a thought for those who live in the 57 cities that have steadily deteriorated over the last five years.

The ranking, which considers 30 factors related to things like safety, healthcare, educational resources, infrastructure and environment in 140 cities, shows that since 2010 average liveability across the world has fallen by 1%, led by a 2.2% fall in the score for stability and safety. Ongoing conflicts in Syria, Ukraine and Libya have been compounded by terrorist shootings in France and Tunisia as well as civil unrest in America. In Athens, austerity rather than unrest has weighed on the provision of public services, while Kiev saw the sharpest fall over the last 12 months and is now among the ten least liveable cities ranked.

The most liveable places, notes the EIU, tend to be “mid-sized cities in wealthier countries with a relatively low population density”, which explains the low ranking of near-megacities like London and New York and goes some way to explaining Melbourne’s continued place in the sun.

Well, real estate in Toronto and Vancouver costs an arm and a leg (I should know, hence my hometown, lol). After that, both are alright but Toronto is filled with people who drive like maniacs on roads like the 401 and Don Valley Parkway.

And I believe most of these cities have a high cost of living, which keeps most of the criminal riff-raff out.

Hmm. the Economist “Livability Index.”

Wonder how that compares to the Forbes listing of best cities to live in.

The Economist is a EuroSocialist rag. I am an actual economist, I took The Economist for a year, and by the end I was throwing it away unopened.

The top ten cities are in the following countries:

Australia
Austria
Canada
Finland
New Zealand
Switzerland

How many of those countries have no enforcement of their borders and allow anyone inside the country to go on welfare the minute they get there?

How many of those countries make any baby of anyone on their territory an instant citizen the moment they are born?

Here are the cities:

Melborne
Vancouver
Vienna
Toronto
Calgary
Adelaide
Sydney
Perth
Auckland
Helsinki
Zurich

How many of those cities are "Sanctuary Cities" that do not permit their police forces to cooperate with national authorities when it comes to tracking down criminals who are in the country illegally?

I was in Vienna for five full days at the end of June. It is a very nice city and friendly people. Their mass transit system runs like a clock and makes getting round the city a snap.

If our cities are so bad, why are millions of people coming here to live. If we would get rid of 50% of the illegals who have invaded the USA, we wouldn’t be nearly as crowded, and the quality of life would improve substantially.

I notice Baltimore, Ferguson, East St. Louis, and ChiTown didn’t make the list.

There are zero liveable cities for me. Some are worthy of a brief visit, but live in one? No.

RE: If our cities are so bad, why are millions of people coming here to live.

Our cities are not that bad, I bet you’ll find quite a number in the top 30.

Why are millions coming to live here? Simple — EASIER and MORE WELCOMING and LESS STRICT in terms of immigration policy compared to the other countries.

Most of them are cold cities for much of the year, too. I’m sure you don’t find many homeless mutants yearning to live on the streets of Helsinki.

Melbourne’s winter is not that cold. Five degrees centigrade ( about 41 Fahrenheit ) at its coldest.

Yeah, and I've heard it's very hard to get Australian citizenship. Very, very hard.
