ESPN Pulls Colin Cowherd Off Air For Good After Comments On Dominicans

Colin Cowherd had been a lame duck at ESPN anyway, but today the sports giant said he’s done there for good. Eight days after the company said its popular radio host and sometimes TV guy was leaving its ranks, ESPN has yanked him off its airwaves over remarks he made questioning the intellect of Dominicans.

On his radio show The Herd on Thursday, Cowherd was talking about how baseball is no more of a “thinking-man’s game”

than other sports. “I’ve never bought into that whole ‘baseball is too complex,'” he said. “Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic. The Dominion Republic has not been known in my lifetime as having world-class intellectual abilities. I mean, a lot of those kids have come from rough backgrounds and have not had the opportunities academically that other kids from other countries have.” Naturally, social media had a cow, and ESPN booted Cowherd for good today. “Colin Cowherd’s comments over the past two days do not reflect the values of ESPN or our employees,” the company said in a statement. “Colin will no longer appear on ESPN.”

For the record, about one-tenth of the players on opening-day MLB rosters were Dominican.

Before getting das boot, Cowherd was back on the air this morning saying his words had been taken out of context — because most media and folks only heard the quip about “world-class intellectual abilities.” So he played the entire 57 seconds of the offending rant (it starts at the 4:07 mark above) in an attempt to defend his position. After today’s show, however, he took to Twitter to apologize:

"I did not intend to offend anyone w my comments. I realize my choice of words was poor and not reflective of who I am. I am sorry".

Another sports announcer fired for telling the truth. Nothing new. Just goes to show that no matter how liberal you are the big boys at ESPN will fire you in a heartbeat if you don't toe the line. No bigger fan of "diversity" than Cowherd. He must have been wanting more money. Fox Sports is waiting.

I agree, I don’t know much about the guy but didn’t care for what I did hear. That seems a bit of a silly remark, I saw an MLB game recently in person and the Dominicans on both sides did pretty darn good.

He’s an ass.
Lately he seems to spend more time trying to talk social issues than sports. Fox ... welcome your version of Olbermann. Good luck with that.

This was ESPN getting a dig at him before he left. I think they’re more pissed off at him leaving for FOX Sports than what he actually said which was hardly controversial.

Dominicans? No, they're pretty smart. Franciscans on the other hand . . .

Cowherd loves football and is at most ambivalent about baseball. The general culture agrees with him. Looking at the general culture, it’s not surprising.

How was he telling the truth? He grossly exaggerates how many Dominicans there are in baseball. And do you have any proof Dominicans are stupid? Please provide.

He knew absolutely nothing about sports. Fox Sports is not smart if they hire this moron. Can't any of these channels hire people who actually know something about sports?

He said something stupid once before. I can’t remember what it was all about but Rush was really reading him the riot act.

Good riddance to an insufferable jerk. And yes, Aaron Rodgers is a better quarterback than your hero, Tony Romo. Ya dope.

In general, professional baseball players aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the double switch....

He’s also an Obama suck-up, one of the worst.

Cowherd’s interviews of the Girlish Fireballer are cringeworthy, no doubt in part because they are both prissy wannabes AND third-rate intellects.

Stephen A. Smith is about the only one on ESPN that can basically say what he feels like saying and get by with it. They might suspend him for a couple of days but he always comes back and acts exactly the same.

Many people would be surprised to learn that ESPN doesn't pay as well as other networks.

If Cowherd goes to Fox Sports, he will make a lot more money. Even better he will get out of that high tax liberal hell-hole of Connecticut. He has a very good audience and has been a huge moneymaker for ESPN. He's a self-admitted west coast guy and has ikely been looking to get away from ESPN. Look for him to show up again in SoCal.

= = = = = = = = = = =
As compared to NFL? NBA?
Which group lead the ‘league’ in duhs, ya knows etc.

Of course the questions they get asked are bounding on the ridiculous also....”you struck out twice with the bases loaded. How do you feel about that”.... sorry, ask me that question and a polite answer may be “Then why are you bothering me?” that more are not ‘put on their backsides’ is a showing of not picking on the stooopid.etc....

Notice how Cowherd was allowed to splain himself while 7 words in a speech of thousands was used to try and ‘hang’ Trump.

Both made stupid comments but not enough to get run out of town on a rail for.
