Yellowstone Park advises against selfies with bison

A series of injuries at Yellowstone National Park has officials warning tourists that selfies and bison don't mix.

A 43-year-old Mississippi woman was thrown into the air recently after she turned her back on a bison to take a photo of herself with it.

“The woman suffered only minor injuries, but in June a 68-year-old Georgia woman was seriously hurt after a bison gored her along a trail.”

Bison are considered the second most dangerous of North American animals. (Grizzly bears being the most dangerous and cougars being the third)

It crossed my mind that some of these ‘so called’ warnings would be better off NOT publicized as anyone who is dumb enough to do this idiocy shouldn’t be sharing OUR air supply.

Nor have I. But I think they should have advised against selfies with grizzly bears, mountain lions and wolves while they were at it. Because some people are that stupid.

A bison removed the head from a French photographer in YNP back in the 80’s.

He gave his camera to a another tourist to snap a photo of the Frenchman next to the bison.

I'm not saying we should kill all the stupid people. I'm just saying we should remove all warning labels, and let it sort itself out.

I was in Yellowstone three weeks ago. The place was packed with people. Busloads of Chinese tourists clogging the roads and walkways. Bison and elk were prevelant on the roadways and even walking up on the boardwalks. Warning signs concerning animals and keeping away from geysers/hot springs are posted everywhere you look. I witnessed several people walk right up to bison for photo ops and defy warning signs to go kneel down next to an active geothermal pool. Frankly, I’m surprised there aren’t more tourist deaths at Yellowstone.
