Good Monday morning from Washington, where a new embassy is opening and where President Obama and his team continue to try to make their case on the Iran nuclear deal. On the trail, however, Donald J. Trump continues to gather the acclaim of his supporters and the condemnation of just about everyone else.
The Republican Party will begin another week facing questions about Mr. Trump, the bellicose real estate developer who on Saturday questioned the heroics of Senator John McCain, a former prisoner of war.
The condemnation from most Republicans was swift but it remains to be seen whether the partys base will share their perspective.

The premier leftist rag anywhere.
Even they are pulling back, realizing they just don't get what is going on.
Trump is only “ the main issue facing the GOP” if these idiots keep letting themselves be played
What a box of tools
speaking truth to power
Trump for VP
“Trump for VP”
Trump has a massive ego. I can’t see him accepting the number two spot.
Don’t think his ego would go for that. He’s in for top billing or nothing.
I honestly don’t think veterans are going to be up in arms over Trump’s comments. I’m sure McCain has a small group of veteran fans, but the I doubt the majority of Vietnam vets will rally to his side.
Taken in context, Trump’s comments weren’t even how they’re being portrayed. Trump was energized over McCain calling us (conservative anti-amnesty folks) a bunch of crazies.
Whether McCain is a war hero or not is irrelevant to the decades of damage he’s done since the war.
1) We have been lectured for years that "we need to stay away from the social issues". Romney's Mormonism, Obama's quasi-Islam didn't matter but Trump needs to be more religious?
2) ONLY Cruz and Trump have attacked common core (I don't know about Huck, because he is irrelevant)
“Trump has a massive ego. I cant see him accepting the number two spot.”
I don’t know. He’s not a stupid man. He’s a good negotiator, so can look at a situation’s long-term Big Picture. Being V.P. is a path to where he wants to be and maybe he’s willing to be patient.
It would be a hoot if he were V.P. The comparison between him and Joe Biden... Actually, we need him as Press Secretary; he’d take the MSM, chew them up, and spit them out.
GOPe leadership is completely out of touch with the base.
McCain is all over Morning Joe this morning, looking doe-eyed and hurt as I predicted over the weekend. He’s demanding Trump apologize to all vets - as if Trump insulted all vets. What a hypocrite and phony this guy is. And to think I once gave him my vote!
I believe he is in it to win it. He has said he doesn’t do Plan B’s very well.
I gave him $100 and voted for him - I am an idiot, but never again.
From the article: “but it remains to be seen whether the partys base will share their perspective.”
With the huge Republican victories of the last election or so, and with the RINO’s essentially flipping off the voter once they got the majority, I just really don’t think they care at all about “the party’s base”.
For the GOPe to reject their own base in favor of illegals is a suicidal disease.
Trump is both the doctor and the cure for that disease!!
Americans have NO confidence it what the MSM says anymore. The whole anti-Trump thing is perceived for what it is... a crude, media-driven effort to splinter Republicans.
It demonstrates JUST how out-of-touch the MSM really IS... Because, Republicans, as such, have ceased to BE unified for many years. More than ever, there is fundamental internal debate within the GOP.
The ‘splintering’ has already taken place, and continues unabated.
Meanwhile the MSM is handing Trump and GOP and Conservative candidates more press time they could usually expect!
I think the next national election will make or break the GOP as a political entity. Maybe then the MSM will get it.
Mature voters get the Conservative message but young people need some guidance. So. I like the idea that Trump is challenging the dated, moribund GOP positions.
Moreover, I think its time someone apprised the GOP that they are stylistically unappealing to voters and certainly to younger voters.
I’m a veteran and I’m not offended by Trump’s comments one bit. McCain is, in fact, a war hero because he survived capture. Are all the other Vietnam vets treated as heroes? No. Many veterans even paid the ultimate price in service to the country. McCain fortunately survived, and he’s done very, very well for himself since.
Thank you for your service, Senator McCain. I hope you’re never elected again.
Let’s assume a Cruz/Trump ticket came about and won the next election.
Yes, we’d have both a good Prez & VP.
But who’d get all the press coverage? The guy with the big mouth always saying something to get attention. The press would make him a quasi-president. I just don’t think it would work out.
I personally do not like loud mouth types, but in this case Trump would be best with the number one spot. With his success Cruz would be guaranteed to win next time up.
The GOPe is the greatest threat faced by America. Until it is destroyed, we can’t fight liberalism or Islamofascism, let alone shrink the government or the debt.
Who's better? Jeb's illegal alien wife? Scott Walker's pro-abortion liberal Democrat wife? Pro-Muslim Crispy Creme Christy? "Retard Rick" Perry? Only Cruz and Trump should be even on the stage.
McCain is a POS and he needs exposed. He cashed in on his POW status and there are lots and lots of stories about his conduct as a POW. I want nothing more than the man exposed and tossed out on his arse..
