On Monday 58 Wisconsin grassroots leaders signed onto an open letter to Scott Walker, asserting to the Republican governor and likely presidential candidate they want no more games on Common Core.
At issue is the fact that while Walker proposed defunding the Common Core-aligned Smarter Balanced exam in his budget, the new Badger Exam that replaces it will also be aligned with the controversial standards, making it unlikely that many local school districts would opt for non-Common Core standards.
In a statement to Breitbart News, parent and anti-Common Core grassroots activist Jeffrey Horn states the grassroots leaders represent groups from across the political spectrum: liberal, conservative, and libertarian all united in their opposition to the games Governor Walker is playing with Common Core in his biennial budget.
The letter, posted at Stop Common Core in Wisconsin, blasts Walker:
On April 20th of this year, you were directly asked during a major media interview if you would repeal Common Core should such a bill land on your desk. You replied affirmatively, adding, Absolutely! I proposed it in my budget.
Yet, contrary to claims you stand against the Common Core standards, you are effectively entrenching those standards in Wisconsin via Common Core-aligned, high-stakes assessments.
For months, you have justified taking no definitive action against Common Core, insisting that local school districts have the power to decide for themselves what standards they will use.
However, in a statement to the press on January 17th of this year, you demonstrated clear understanding that Common Core-aligned assessments effectively coerce school districts into retaining the standards.

Governor Walker should absolutely eliminate CC asap, even if he backs off on plans to run for POTUS. Particularly if he pledged to do it in the first place.
And it’s even more important (politically) it he wants the Oval Office, so Mr. Walker best deliver on ridding WI from that albatross.
It’s a loser. Everybody knows what it is and what it intends to accomplish.
I touch the future, I teach (Christa McAulliffe)
and what kind of future
1) do we have now, and
2) what will that future BE, IN the future>
Common core is good little worker bees with just enough oblique vocabulary to appear educated.
Why don’t the “grassroots leaders” run for political office and get themselves elected to something?
Why doesn’t Governor Walker keep his word and repeal Common Core? That is the question you should be asking. I guess that promise is going the same way the 250,000 jobs promise went, half- a$$ed.
Governor Walker shouldn’t be playing pretend and faking opposition to Common Core with bait and switch tactics, replacing Common Core with Common Core but changing the name on the package.
Does anyone think that since Walker has still not repealed Common Core in Wisconsin that he will deliver on repealing Common Core nationwide?
Actually, I'm not wondering any more. This is no time to be walking the tightrope.
Dayspring hasn’t told him what to say yet. Walker does not operate on conviction. What drives him is political opportunism and expediency.
OK...
what is the political association of the parties demanding his statement or position???
they are either dems, unions or mainstream republicans...
in other words, political insiders..
scott, do not even acknowledge these people exist..
whatever words you use will be twisted to turn your own supporters against you..
do not be polite..
tell them to go pound sand...
in a politically correct way, of course... :)
In other words, it is fine to not repeal Common Core as Walker promised as long as he ignores those who demand it?
It shouldn’t matter what their political affiliation is. Common Core not being repealed is the problem.
I already knew that he wasn’t being truthful about repealing Common Core. I am glad that there are those in his state that are bringing attention to it.
BTW< the article says that these grassroots people are Conservative and Libertarian. Typically, liberals are fine with Common Core. It advances their agenda.
We can’r raise sand about Bush and Common Core and then be hypocrites when Scott Walker doesn’t repeal it.
Scott Walker is a typical GOPe establishment guy. He’s nothing special and he’s not the guy to make the radical changes we need in this country.
valid point
