The two planes that collided Tuesday morning were an F-16 fighter and a Cessna 150, according to the National Transportation Safety Board, which said it is investigating the collision. The accident occurred about 11 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

A spokesman for Berkeley County said the two planes collided over Lewisfield Plantation in Moncks Corner, a town about 45 minutes north of Charleston. The county government said it is setting up a command center in that town, which is near Lake Moultrie.

Debris has been seen on land as well as in the water, officials said Tuesday.

The pilot of the F-16 Fighting Falcon safely ejected, according to a statement from Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, S.C., where the aircraft originated. Authorities from the base said it was gathering a team of investigators to determine what happened.

Yikes. Not much left of the Cessna, I’d guess.

I’d venture to guess that 99% of the time the Cessna is going to lose that battle.

Both crashed. Falcon driver safely parachuted. He hit the Cessna broadside. Not good.

Let’s have the name and rank of the ejected pilot.

This is like a Mustang 5.0 hitting a scooter.

Was the F-16 pilot NOT PAYING ATTENTION?

Authorities from the base said it was gathering a team of investigators to determine what happened.

Just off hand, I'd say that the pilots of both crafts attempted to occupy the same space, which didn't work out so well for either. Investigation complete!

I’d hate to see the Cessna pilot’s insurance bill once they settle up on the lost F-16.

Ironically, a Cessna is lovingly called a ‘bug smasher’.

LOS issue, I bet.

“Was the F-16 pilot NOT PAYING ATTENTION?”

Same could be said of the Cessna pilot.

And the first indication of the impact was when the pitot tube started to crinkle.

2nd story I have seen today about this incident and still nothing on the Cessna 152 occupant(s). I guess they are still looking for them.

They must still be in the fuselage, I would think.

Or maybe not.

sailplane pilot lost 3 feet of wingtip, and an aileron hinge into a Marine Harrier while out ridge soaring in SoCal. Both aircraft barely made it home.

Marine base sent a $100,000.00 bill to Chip later.

Bill went into the trash can immediately (FedGov is self-insured).

See and be seen doesn’t always work when there is disparate speed involved.

Doesn’t the F16 have collision warning alarms??? Sheesh. You’re puting around in your Cessna showing your wife or kids how you can fly and you get run over by an F16?? One pilot is likely a relative amateur. The other is a highly trained professional flying a billion dollar US Government attack fighter. I’d probably make the F16 pilot a mechanic for the rest of his career.

"Same could be said of the Cessna pilot."

Really? I thought you were a pilot, Hulka..

Exactly what was the F-16 doing at Cessna 150 altitudes and how exactly does a Cessna 150 have the visibility and speed to evade a jet fighter? Have any hours at all in a Cessna?
