What This Cruel War Was Over: The meaning of the Confederate flag is best discerned [tr]
The Atlantic ^ | June 22, 2015 | Ta-Nehisi Coates

Posted on 06/23/2015 6:33:55 AM PDT by C19fan

This afternoon, in announcing her support for removing the Confederate flag from the capitol grounds, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley asserted that killer Dylann Roof had a “a sick and twisted view of the flag” which did not reflect “the people in our state who respect and in many ways revere it.” If the governor meant that very few of the flag’s supporters believe in mass murder, she is surely right. But on the question of whose view of the Confederate Flag is more twisted, she is almost certainly wrong.

Roof’s belief that black life had no purpose beyond subjugation is “sick and twisted” in the exact same manner as the beliefs of those who created the Confederate flag were “sick and twisted.” The Confederate flag is directly tied to the Confederate cause, and the Confederate cause was white supremacy. This claim is not the result of revisionism. It does not require reading between the lines. It is the plain meaning of the words of those who bore the Confederate flag across history. These words must never be forgotten. Over the next few months the word “heritage” will be repeatedly invoked. It would be derelict to not examine the exact contents of that heritage.

Why is it sick and twisted for the creators of the Confederate flag to believe black life serves no purpose beyond subjugation when the DemocRAT Party embraces the woman, Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, who believes the same thing.

Ditto for Charles Darwin, darling of anti-Creationists, who believed that blacks were an inferior race. In fact, before Darwin's manifesto, we were all considered to be of one race; the human race.

Really sick and twisted. I mean the authors’ opinion, not his name :)

Hyphenated names usually belong to crazed feminists.

Ta Nehisi-Coates - that’s Melissa Harris-Perry spelled backwards.

If repubs running for president would call for the democrat party to change it’s name because it is the very symbol of slavery, KKK, Jim Crow laws you would see how fast this crap stops.

If they started asking do you really want as president someone, Hillary, who’s husband while gov of Arkansas didn’t allow blacks to vote the way they wanted to or didn’t allow people with a different skin color than his to drive through his state unopposed, this crap would stop.

I can’t help but wonder why the mouths with a microphone it front of them are all silent on Hillary’s ties to racism.

Why is it when Hillary starts accusing repubs of racial profiling everyone is silent on Bill Clinton getting sued for racial profiling?

Why is it when Hillary starts accusing repubs of voter disenfranchisement everyone is silent on B Clinton getting sued for voter disenfranchisement?

Not quite. She believed black life serves no purpose beyond elimination.

Most of them didn't come here naturally - those who wish to should be able to apply for a reparation and escorted out of the country - citizenship revoked.

If the federal government asked me today if I would accept a reparation (I am not black) and accept citizenship from the Spanish King and live in Spain, I would very likely say yes. This country is finished and I say that as someone who has traced his ancestors from both sides of parentage to the 16th and 17th centuries on this continent.

The left's ability to seize tragedy for their own agenda is going to blow back in their face big time.

Watch SCV's membership grow considerably.

Ta-Nehisi Coates delievers what is expected from him. It’s Nikki Haley who is a disappointment. But you can’t elect Hindu’s to represent you and expect they will stand in the gap for a culture they are not a part of.

It’s surprising that Conservatives in several southern states have chosen to elect Hindu governors (albeit converted to Christianity at some point). Always surprising to me, and this event shows why it’s ultimately a failure mode.

‘Ah’s wonts yo’ tuh pays fuh my reparashuns!
Ah’s wonts yo’ tuh pays fo’ mah house, mah food, to yo’ chillen’s chillen!’

The article has a lot of quotes from the different States, but does NOT refer to the originator of those thoughts, as a literary-trained author should.

The War Between the States was begat with the 10th Amendment off the U.S. Constitution in contention, with Washington, D.C., wishing further centralized control, with the States surrendering their individuality (which was one of the stipulations under the Constitution - their individuality intact) to a centralized federal government.

Ta-Nehisi,
- If you dislike this flag, do not fly it.
- Further, do not trash talk those who do.

(btw, note how she’s already joining a media campaign to make the word “heritage” a taboo.)

That there are many Leftist crack-pots who pontificate against traditional values with little or no knowledge or understanding of history, is a given. The real question is how and when to respond to them, in a manner that is effective.

The idea that because the Confederate South had an hierarchical system, such as that in Biblical times; such as that in the Classical era of Greece & Rome; such as that in almost all of Europe from the fall of Rome until the modern era; there was an idea that the lives of workers did not matter, is a ludicrous form of angry myopia that needs to be addressed.

For an example. From the standpoint of whether "Black lives mattered" in the days of the Confederacy: Contrast the relative standing of urban Blacks in most American cities today, with their standing (cumulatively, both as free men and those technically in bondage--as were some we honor from Classical Greece to this day) in the actual days of the Confederacy?

Most of your skilled construction workers, carpenters, masons, shipwrights, etc.., were Black in the deep South. (Some "free," many still technically not; but certainly respected, in the early 1860s.) What happened? The end of the War generation were not able to pass on their skills to their children--corrupted by Leftist politicians of that era, promising instant equality from Government--entitlements just from existing.

White Americans are certainly being victimized by the present Administration in Washington. But, frankly, as anyone who understands the dynamics of human motivations (positive & negative); it is a very close call, which race is being victimized more. Looking at what has been happening in Black neighborhoods in Baltimore, Greater St. Louis, Chicago, etc.; it does not really appear to be the Whites.

Nor is the victimization that terrorizes law abiding Blacks, the result of Policemen doing their jobs; or of Southerners who honor their very American heritage that comes closer than any other to reflecting the values & traditions of the Founding Fathers. To understand what is destroying the quality of "Black lives," you need to look to the centers of Leftwing agitation, and the White House & the hopelessly compromised Republicans, who sit silently--if not providing a friendly chorus--while America is being deconstructed. (And do not forget who is being most directly victimized by the open Southern border.)
