Cosmic Inflation has the same basic problem as String Theory: the lack of falsifiability and the inability to make useful predictions beyond a priori observations.
They need something like the Michelson-Morley experiment to prove it one way or the other, and there so far nobody has done it, and it is unclear if it even can be done.
