Conservationists urge prosecution of men 'surfing' on whale shark

Wildlife harassment is never a laughing matterUnbelievable footage of individuals 'surfing' a whale shark. What a sad reflection on their attitude to wildlife when, instead of considering themselves fortunate to see this majestic creature in the wild, they choose to participate in a stupid stunt like this (wonder if they would have done this with a great white shark?).

As whale sharks are protected - the IUCN (World Conservation Union) Red List of Threatened Species lists the Whale Shark as vulnerable - these guys should be charged - come on FB community, please help bring these people to justice for their stupidity and arrogance treating a protected species in this way. If anyone has any information on this incident, please message us. Please share widely.

How do they know the shark wasn’t having fun too?

Maybe the whale shark likes to play with it’s food before it eats it!

Something seems fishy here. I can’t view a video. But first I want to know how.

FYI, Whale sharks only eat plankton.

No mention of actual harm to the shark.

Why would someone need a rope to hang on a self powered”surf board”? It obviously is not attached to the animal

No different from riding horses. Do they want to ban that too?

He could have taken a dive if he wasn’t digging it. Our world is insane, everything is wrong, and nothing is wrong. Would these guys be getting the same treatment if they were environmentalists working for National Geographic?

The shark simply didn’t feel threatened or it would have moved away.

How is that any different than riding a horse? When I was a kid our dog was so eager to run ahead when we took him for a walk we would hop on our skateboards and let him pull us down the road.

These guys didn’t harm the whale shark. People need to lighten up.

Bingo. What's worse, a 175 lb human riding on the back of an animal that weights about 40,000 pounds and 40 feet in length -or- mincing up Bald Eagle in a wind turbine? I mean really, the whale shark was probably unaware of the human or the human made as much difference as the weight of a butterfly on one's shoulder.
