The Bamiyan Buddhas, destroyed by the Taliban, are reborn as holograms

The Bamiyan Buddhas were erected in the 5th Century in a valley in Afghanistan astride the Silk Road near the border with Persia. Towering 58 meters and 38 meters respectively, they looked down on the valley from their niches in the side of a cliff from around the time of the fall of the Roman Empire to the rise of the Taliban. The Taliban, which ruled Afghanistan, blew the Buddhas up for being an affront to their version of Islam in March 2001, months before the attacks of 9/11 touched off a chain of events that led to their downfall. Now, according to Sunday story in I09, the Buddhas have returned, in a manner of speaking.

“A Chinese couple, Janson Yu and Liyan Hu worked to develop a projector at the cost of $120,000, which they first tested in China before bringing the system to the UNESCO World Heritage Site this past weekend. With the permission of UNESCO and the Afghan Government, they were able to project a 3D image into the slots in the cliffside that housed one of the statues. For the evening, the statues stood once again in a symbolic work of art. While the statues are physically gone, they cannot be easily erased from our collective memory. “

When the anti-Christ is killed, but is resurrected, I picture something like this.

Very interesting story.
Puts China in a good light participating in an effort to virtually restore religious cultural icon in a a war-torn country. Cunning move by Chinese party leaders.

Maybe we could adopt similar holographic projection events of the US Constitution onto Congress, Supreme court and White house, University buildings as a reminder that the US Constitution, lives and in spite of gov’t efforts to abolish and demolish it.

Hologram? That’s like almost the same thing, right? I wonder if anyone will notice?
