Flaming Hawk With Snake in Its Talons Sparks Fire Near La Jolla
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Jun 9, 2015 | R. Stickney

Posted on 06/09/2015 5:58:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line

A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.

San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.

Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.

Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.

Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.

"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.

There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.

This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.

Nah...this one was robotic.

I will see if I can let the TV stations know about it. No way I’m going to respond to it, since I’m not about to give them any personal information.

So how was your Day Camp, all things considered?

I’ve never worked a Monday before. It was a bit chaotic! But all things considered, all the boys made it to a variety of fun activities. I’m working with a man who’s supposed to be the “leader,” because he’s there all week while I’m off Wednesday because April-the-babysitter has to go to a Shakespeare rehearsal. She’s only the 4th Gentlewoman of whatever it is, but even spear-carriers have to make every practice unless someone died. This gave me the opportunity to have a choir practice on Wednesday and go the Post Office.

But anyway, the man is a new leader, hasn’t led a Den in real life yet or worked day camp. He waits for me to take charge, which is fine. I just hope he gets a tough mom to help him out on Wednesday.

It was “only” 97 today, but supposed to be hotter tomorrow. This is okay as long as we all keep pouring water down. It’s much worse to have it storming and 150 kids plus adults trapped in the dining hall.

Now I’m working on editing and translating a speech for the upcoming church retreat, for one of our Mexican ladies. The content is great - she’s a very spiritual lady - so most of the “edit” is just getting pieces in the correct order. I’ll give her the draft back tomorrow - fortunately she lives nearby - probably with a nudge to “tell us more about *this* - and have it in shape for her to present at our meeting Saturday morning.

You could always pass it over to Geron to spice it up a little; have the computer try to take over everything; disclose the presence of aliens; that sort of thing.

I guess our language will need to change.

I meant the kind of aliens who allegedly cross interstellar space, not a trickle of water.

Some politicians refer to “future Americans”. They really don’t mean it.

In the first place, our neighbors to the south are already Americans. They are South Americans, Central Americans, and Mexican Americans.

What those politicians are seeing, but not saying, is “Future Democrat Voters”. That’s why they are in love with having more of them.

But a lot of them are here, like us, for the American Dream; that working hard and applying yourself can lead you to success. I welcome those people, however they get here.

Not all of them are like that. We need better filters. We need a way to know who really wants to live the dream, and who only wants to share the nightmare. We don’t need any more of the latter, whether they came here or were born here.

Even if we had a fence that would keep people from crossing, it would still be true, as I said a few years ago:

“There may not be room here for all who want to come, but there’s room on the flag for more stars.”

I figure if the “future Democrats” are recently let out of overcrowded prisons in countries to the south of us, they aren’t really interested in being here for the American Dream. They want to exploit the Norteamericanos.

I’m tuned, I’m tuned.

If I got a live call I might start acting like I was a CIA agent and demand, “How did you get this number?”

It was pretty funny, actually. I figured it had to be a scam...me and the IRS haven’t spoken in years. That’s the way I like it.

That would be really cool. Do you know of a place like that? I'd move there immediately.

I can’t believe you bought that. How much did you pay for that? I would never hang it on a wall.

Well, it was the siting of the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico. The only thing different, it was sitting on a cactus.

I would call them back and very seriously ask this question:

Um, hi, I wanted to ask about you freezing my bank accounts. The bank keeps adding charges and taking them more negative. If you freeze them, will the bank stop that and give me time to pay off the previous charges? Because every time the balance is negative the charges are higher and I can’t get caught up now.

I would but I’m not a good liar. First of all, my main bank account is a new type, and there is no way a check can bounce because each check has to be pre-authorized. And there are no fees or charges because it is actually a debit account. If that makes any sense.

My other “banking” account is just a debit account that receives money by email or another bank account. Not much IRS (the REAL IRS) could do with either of them. I love it because I never have to touch money unless I want cash, and then I go to an ATM.

My years of working in downtown Las Vegas taught me not to carry cash, so I don’t. I have change in a froggie bank and now, quarters in my laundry bag, neither of which would help the IRS fill its coffers.
