DENISON, Texas, - Rangers at a Texas park said earthworms gathering in clumped "herds" in the middle of a road looked like someone had dumped spaghetti from their car.
Eisenhower State Park Superintendent Ben Herman said rangers checking back roads at the Denison park May 29 found earthworms fleeing storms had formed into balls in a straight line down the middle of the road.
Texas Parks and Wildlife shared video of the worm balls on YouTube.
Rangers said they thought the clumps were spaghetti until they got close enough to poke at them.
"We're still puzzled why they decided to line up in the middle of the road," Herman told ABC News. "Even our biologist doesn't know why they're spaced so well and in the line."
Officials said the worms may have formed into the balls, or herds, so they could share the drier portions of pavement, or they may have formed herds because they mistook the sound of the rain for the noise of predators beating down on the ground.
"We were all fascinated by what happened," Herman said. "It was pretty entertaining to watch the worms do their thing."
I thought the political conventions were in 2016.
They are escaping the rain, I have seen them come up on my patio during long periods of heavy rain. These just don’t know they are going to be run over by a vehicle.
Have never tried Tarantula ,is it nice? :)
They are just having sex. Its WORM PORN!
i see the same thing here after a rain. One thing I can’t figure out. I have a blue plastic 55 gallon drum cut in half. After each rain storm there are several earthworms in the bottom where rain water has collected. How did they get there? The sides are too slick to climb, and I know the worms did not drop from the sky.
Similar to the fire ants that clustered themselves into mounds to survive the floods.
C’mon, Boys...the herd’s got loose again! Saddle up! There’s work to be done!
Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’
Though the streams are swollen
Keep them doggies rollin’,
Rawhide!
Through rain and wind and weather
Hell bent for leather
Move ‘em on
Head em’ up
Move ‘em on
Rawhide!
Cut ‘em out
Ride ‘em in
Cut ‘em out
Rawhide!
mmmmmmm! Or maybe they did.......... ; 0{
I have heard people say it rained fish but I have never seen that happen and it does sound far fetched!
We tried them in Cambodia fried in oil with garlic. They’re small and not hairy. They were o.k. We tried rice rat( chicken with a long tail in Thailand)fried with garlic- terrible!
Yes it’s a message from the heavens to go fishing. God finally heard about the old teach a man to fish saying and stopped dropping Manna.
“It was to seek the place where moisture would last the longest in my opinion. Between the yellow lines where water might pool bounded by the relatively waterproof yellow lines. The other parts of the road were sloped and would dry faster.”
The area has experienced heavy rains. They were seeking a place of least moisture.
Naw, just a whole lotta lovin’ going on.
Lt Worf: “Gaa is best eaten live.”
Great opportunity. Scoop them up and start a worm farm.
and I know the worms did not drop from the sky......Annnd.....JUST how did you know, hhhhmmmmm?
Maybe they did and that might be why they were in the center of the road between the yellow lines.....
Too funny
Now imagine how many earthworms there are that you cannot see. Imagine the billions per mile plus all the other insects. That ground you are standing on is moving.
