A 12-year-old boy skipped school, police said, and took a joyride in his dads F150 Ford pickup truck across state lines.
The boys escape was unnoticed by his parents. It wasnt until Prince George County police received a help to notify call from South Carolina Highway Patrol around 1:15 p.m. Thursday.
The boy, who will not be identified because of his age, took the truck over 300 miles.
We were called by South Carolina State Police to go to an address on Walton Lake Road, said Prince George County Lt. Paul Burroughs.
Turns out, the boy was supposed to be in class at J. E. J. Moore Middle School in Prince George, but instead SCHP pulled him over on interstate 95.
Highway Patrol officers tell CBS-6 a driver called about an erratic driver near I-95 and Route 501 in Marion County, South Carolina. When officers stopped the truck, they discovered two guns inside.
Its a shock to the neighborhood, said Danielle Booth, who lives next door to the boys family. I never wouldve guessed. And that in the truck? Oh, my.
Its very concerning that was in vehicle with him, and you wonder what he was planning to do, said Booth.
And neighbors arent the only ones expressing concern. Its definitely concerning, and like I said, we are working with the info we have right now and will follow up when he gets back to Virginia, said Burroughs.
The SC Highway Patrol tells us the boy was taken to a juvenile detention center in Marion County.
Neither the boy nor any other driver was harmed.
Buehler? Buehler?
How could he possibly be expected to handle school on a day like this?
I thought this was going to be a funny article until I read it and learned that there were two guns in the truck with the 12 year old.
This is in my neck of the woods and it is entirely possible that the kid did not even know the guns were in the truck when he skipped school and stole his father’s truck.
That’s what I was thinking. Maybe his dad keeps a hunting rifle in the back window and a pistol in the glove compartment.
if ya gonna skip, skip large
But was he buckled in????
THAT’s the REAL question!!
After all... “Click it or Ticket!”
Inquiring minds wanna know...
Why would two guns scare you?
Seehs, a country of ‘frady cats.
When I was 12, my grandmother handed me her .22 and told me to go out back and shoot her some quail.
Used to steal my uncle Plymouth in the afternoons before my folks got home ....I don't know why our neighbors didn't call Dad and tell on me.....but I learned to drive that old car at age 14.
Then when I was nearing 16 Dad wanted to teach me how to drive... I took off like Dale Earnhardt .....Dad beaming with pride told my Mom I was a 'natural'......(I never told them different)...
I remember a kid who drove many of the back roads in the Ozarks with firearms on a rack in front of the back window of the cab (long ago).
So? I got mu first gun, a .22 semiauto from Western Auto, when I was 12. I walked up and down the road with it over my shoulder.
If the yellow pages still printed those gigantic phone books, the boy could have used those to prop himself higher.
My first thought is good news if he wasn’t texting, next thought is Junior is a very bored, and very bright kid who is not stimulated by school house rocks anymore.
Not sure of his age or the dates. But early in WWII, my “wild” teenage uncle “borrowed” my grandfather’s car for a joy ride and wrecked it. Rather than face my grandfather, my uncle walked into town, enlisted, and the family never saw him again until after the war.

You didn’t put a “sarc” on your post so I’m assuming you’re not joking. With that in mind, your thought processes are somewhat deficient if you can’t understand that a 12 year old boy STEALING his parent’s truck and driving it out of state for some unknown reason and having two guns in his possession is CAUSE FOR CONCERN.
Fortunately he was stopped (after he had gone 300 miles) because someone reported his aberrant driving before he reached whatever destination he may have had in mind and undertook whatever actions he may have had in mind.
In the linked article his neighbors expressed concern (with good reason IMHO) with the situation (and the weapons). Since you and your family are out of harm’s way, I guess you feel safe and can say YOU don’t see a cause for concern.
I have no worry about weapons, Both myself and my family members keep well armed (and well trained) along with good supplies of ammunition. We have NO FEAR of guns. You might want to work on your reading comprehension if you thought that my post (to which you referred) said “two guns scare” me. My post simply said I did not think it was funny.
I did a quick review of your recent posts to try to understand why you would direct an unwarranted “Seehs, a country of ‘fraidy cats’ at me. The only thing I can think of is that you, for some reason, have a chip on your shoulders at FReepers who support Ted Cruz.
“The only thing I can think of is that you, for some reason, have a chip on your shoulders at FReepers who support Ted Cruz.”
LOL! That’s funny.

I’m assuming she didn’t also tell you to skip school, go steal your dad’s truck and head south for hundreds of miles.
She really knew how to fry things. We have fried okra, fried catfish, fried chicken, etc.
The only thing I can think of is that you, for some reason, have a chip on your shoulders at FReepers who support Ted Cruz.
LOL! Thats funny.

Actually it’s kind of sad IMHO. Look at your tagline, your “About Page” and a number of your posts. I’m a Cruz supporter, that is true. But I’m not a “mean spirited” member of the “Cruz Contingent” launching attacks on Walker threads.
