The mother of a rioter says she regrets telling her son to turn himself in.

Allen Bullock, 18, appeared on the front page of the Baltimore Sun last Sunday, smashing a car windscreen with a traffic cone. It was two days before a state of emergency was declared in the Maryland capital to control riots.

After seeing the newspaper, Bullock's stepfather Maurice Hawkins told him he had to 'do the right thing' and contacted police.

But now, with Bullock's bail set at $500,000 and the threat of eight years in jail, his family has wavered in their conviction.

Facing the consequences of his actions might be the only hope he has for turning his life around.

**Not to worry. They would have found him anyway.**

Yup.

After seeing the newspaper, Bullock's stepfather Maurice Hawkins told him he had to 'do the right thing' and contacted police.

The right thing includes doing jail time. You should have smacked him upside the head and made him come home. Then we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Participating in a riot is a serious crime.

You should never, EVER get police involved in “teaching” your child. We learned it the hard way for something downright silly a couple of decades ago. The days of “officer Friendly” helping you “scare your kid straight” are long gone. You merely serve your child up into the arms of a malevolent enforcer these days.

Baltimore has been a big tourist destination in recent years, especially at the Inner Harbor development.

You have to wonder, how many people will vote with their feet and avoid Baltimore now?? You can’t force tourists and conventions to go to a particular place. Both tourists and business decisions can be made to avoid places perceived as dangerous.

Ms.Mayor and her team have work cut out for them in that area. How to convince the world that Baltimore is really a place they want to visit.......

"If he has no extensive juvenile record I would order him to pay $5000 restitution for damaged police property."

The car looks like a privately owned vehicle. Let the insurance company pay to repair the car. Then let the insurance company go after the creep who damaged it while demonstrating his commitment to "social justice." I'm sure they can sue his parents for the several thousand dollars it'll take to fix the car. Meanwhile keep the "yout" in jail.
