What does this newer technology give you on your wrist that the device in your pocket does not do better in every way? I freely and with peace and satisfaction reveal that I am a phone luddite, calling and texting with basic camera function has done me fine for many years, don’t need the bells and whistles and fees.
Nice. If my kids get one, that crazed glass pattern will match their phone screens and laptop screens. Nothing like matching smashed screens on all your electronics to show you are fashion-forward.
I get a lot of email and notifications, much of which I don’t even need to reply to but I always check to see if it is something important. It will be handy to just glance at my wrist after a haptic tap instead of fishing my phone from a pocket or briefcase. I also use my phone when exercising as a lap timer, stop watch and pedometer and I listen to music or streaming radio. I’ve had to strap the phone to my arm... and I’d rather control all those things with just the watch on my wrist. Plus it will do heart rate tracking. Plus it has a (as yet unused but soon usable) PulseOx sensor. Looking forward to that.
I also like the remote trigger for the camera. I think there’ll be some interesting uses for that. I also want to use ApplePay, and since my phone is a 5s I need the chip in the watch for that. There will be thousands of interesting new apps to take advantage of all those little quick glances and interactions that are just what something like a wrist worn device are perfect for. I expect that I’ll probably turn off the ringer on my phone entirely and just use the haptic alert on the watch. Quiet things down.
People really need to get past the idea that this is just some kind of new watch. It’s not. What it really is, is a small extension of the screen and controls of your phone and/or tablet that’s handier because it’s right on your wrist and always just a quick glance away. In fact... It changes and minimizes the tendency to bury my face in my phone when I’m doing something else. Many times I’ll be able to just quickly look and then keep doing what I’m doing. That’s a good thing.
And it tells time. So there’s that. :-)
It sounds like a very good product for you and others like you, my point is though that for the average, and that is most, user the product is just an indulgence and not a needed tool and I would bet that most purchasers would leave it at home after the novelty wore off. I mean how many people actually even wear a watch anymore?
Well, I don’t think anyone, even Apple, thinks that -everyone- is going to get one. Lots of people will and lots of people won’t. I haven’t worn a watch for years either. I didn’t order one because I wanted a watch. I don’t need a watch. But a tiny and powerful fully networked computer that connects to and drives my other systems...on my wrist? That’s something I can use.
