The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Great day here on our Missouri Acre. Lots of sunshine, slight breeze, 86 degrees outside and 75 degrees indoors. Hubby is feeling lots better - even transplanted onions yesterday and is outside working on prepping the corn bed.

I have moved the tomatoes in the 16 oz styro cups outside to transplant into gallon containers for a few weeds before their final transplant into garden or 5 gallon buckets.

I have planted about half of my potatoes and will do the rest this weekend or next week. They may have been greening too long, but we'll see. Hubby got his planted before his surgery.

Last year we canned lots of green beans and then let them go for dried beans, so this year we will do the same. We plan to add beets to the crop-the small bunch we grew last year turned out well, and we like the pickled recipe I found. Our corn will be removed from the cob to save space and frozen. We still have some from last year so we grew about the right amount of that.

Spinach production is great right now, but I am behind on the replanting. Since the winter lettuce took a big hit, my salads and sandwiches are mostly spinach for now.

We have an big abundance of volunteer poke growing now, and hubby has decided he will harvest it while young this year and prepare it the old time way which involves cooking in lots of water, pouring it off, adding fresh several times, then cooking with onions, garlic, and bacon grease. I don't like it - too mushy, but more power to him.

The fruit trees and berry bushes are beginning to look like we might actually get some fruit this year, which would be nice.

Hope all is well with everyone. Have a great weekend. God Bless.

Hey, I saw something interesting on FB. Start your seedlings in flat ice cream cones and then plant the whole thing. How cool is that?

Been really wet here since Wednesday. So since I have to sit to do my gardening because of the polio I haven’t gotten anything done other than in the green house. But! Earlier in the week I got 60 of the tomato plants set out and the corn planted which is up already! The beans are about 3 inches tall, the carrots look really good, the celery is up, we will eat the first lettuce from outside tonight, and the tomatoes in the greenhouse have tomatoes on! Oh, and the watermelon and acorn squash are up and growing well! So all in all a little late this year but doing well!

Wouldn't those ice cream cones be mush from the wet soil long before planting time? That sounds like an idea that someone had rather than a tested method.

Most beautiful and mild winter I’ve ever seen here in Western Colorado...been in the upper 60’s - 80’s from January to March, only real snow we had was on Christmas. April hits and we got snow yesterday! Thank goodness for the greenhouse!!! 2 inches between 9AM and noon yesterday, and then it melted away. We DO need the moisture, however, so I’m not going to complain. Snowpack in the hills was @ 69% of normal until the last couple days, projecting fire bans and no fireworks for the 4th for us. Let’s hope the moisture was enough to keep my summer camping trips warmed with camp fires!

Cold and wet in San Antonio. My 4x4’s are full of beautiful vegetable plants. Not one veggie to be found.

I was hoping for something different but it looks like another year shot. Will give it another 30 days then I will rip it all up, remove the soil and try again from scratch. It is puzzling.

I think we've had two nice days since I put the window unit ACs in. I knew I shouldn't have taken the heaters out of the house and stored them. Blame me for wet, cold weather after Easter. ;)

I certainly haven’t done much since the last pictures I took. I check for weeds, and that's about it. When the sun comes out, I'll get more work done.

In the low 70's here in west Michigan. Spring is finally here. Daffodils starting to open. I am way ahead of the game this year. Maybe it's the 19 pounds I lost in the fall. I have all the roses pruned, some bark chips spread, garden tilled once ( 2 more times to go). Spread out the compost from the new bin we got last year. I was impressed everything had broken down except for one egg shell. I am taking pictures this year. It's a slower process than most people to post. Camera to old desktop to photobucket to FR. Started up a new compost layer in the bin with some old barn cleanout from the goats, wasted hay, straw and manure. I'll throw in some leaves yet and I'm good to go. No asparagus showing yet. Lettuce going good in my big pot with the plexiglas cover. I uncover during the day. Also got my onion sets. Even though I use the walking onions, I like to have green onions handy in a pot outside on the patio. Whatever I have in the pot, I put a ring of green onions around it at the very edge of the pot. I haven't started any seedlings yet, I'll probably do just the russian tomatoes and buy the rest.
Have a couple of bigger projects planned for this summer, one is painting the barn. Picked up some new rough cut cedar 1X4 trim for one of the doors that the goats chewed up a little. As I get older every spring seems more glorious.

Eight tomatoes and ten peppers have been transplanted to the garden. We’re still using the frost covers, mainly for too much sun.
We uncovered the peppers and have bird netting over the pipe framework.

I planted radish seeds and will put in some onion sets this weekend. Wife’s final seed starting article was in last Wednesday’s “The Lake Today.” You’ll find in under “features.”

Those cones are very small so would only take a little water every few days which the soil would soak up and then get dry before more water was needed. My granddaughter is going to try it. Am moving so may try it later.

Yes, very wet here in East Central Mississippi also. Has been raining every day this week and is not expected to clear up until after Sunday.

I’ve been to Boulder several times on vacation trips with my parents when younger. It was strange to me to see tall banks of snow on each side of the road in June.

On one of the trips we went Through Cody Wyoming and had to stop and buy snow tires, during which time we were pelted with baseball size hail.

Do you have a green house, or south or west window?
