Richard Dysart, the Emmy-winning actor who portrayed the cranky senior partner Leland McKenzie in the slick, long-running NBC drama L.A. Law, has died. He was 86.
Dysart, who also played Coach in the original 1972 Broadway production of Jason Millers Pulitzer Prize-winning That Championship Season, died Sunday at home in Santa Monica after a long illness, his wife, artist Kathryn Jacobi, told The Hollywood Reporter ...

He was also the doctor in “Being There”. He knew that Chauncey was really a gardener after all. Maybe this should have been done with the current occupant of the White House.

He was Orville in Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can. He also starred with Eastwood in a few other movies.
He was also the father of Juliet Lewis.

The McKenzie character reminded me of the senior partner at my first law firm job. Formal, dignified, classy, maybe seemingly aloof at times. But he could show tremendous compassion for those in dire straits.
